Orange County Preseason All-State - the University of San Francisco commit and 2019 PBR ProCase participant showed physical gains in his 6-foot-2 185 pound frame with room for more. Desirable left-handed hitting catcher who possess an ideal frame at the next level. Above-average receiver behind the plate, showing emphasis on getting the thumb under the ball and worked low to high. Pop-time showed improved at 1.94-2.08 but struggled with accuracy as only 2 of 5 throws were on the bag. Classic left-handed swing with contact and power potential. Early season showing did show some timing issues but the lack of wasted movement shows the means for quick timing adjustment. Continued physical growth coupled with overall gains mechanically behind and at the plate are needed to make the next step.
SoCal ProCase
2020 C (University of San Francisco) Tyler Imbach has a long athletic frame, with lots of physical projection. He has a smooth left-handed swing with a pull hitting gap-to-gap hitting approach. Flashes power with a loud bat. He shows quick bat speed able to turn on the inside pitch which was very apparent Thursday. Behind the plate he registered a pop time of 2.0-2.1 and threw out one runner. Does a nice job keeping the running game at bay - has thrown out 11 would-be base stealers on the season. He shows quick footwork and quick hands. He is a wall behind the plate and handles the staff. He recorded one hit on Thursday, a tape measure home-run. Turned on a low and inside pitch and put it over the right field fence.
2/26/19 - Imbach has a long athletic frame with physical projection. We saw Imbach twice this week, where he showed that nice line drive swing and approach that we saw at the Preseason All-State event last month. In the first game he was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI and a homerun. He took a low and inside pitch over the right-center field fence, a dream pitch for a left-handed batter. He showed quick bat speed to turn on the inside pitches. Saturday was a different day as he was 0-for-4 at the plate. Behind the plate his pop-time was 2.04 throwing out a would be base stealer. He showed quick hands and accurate throws on both days. He also was a wall behind the plate, making some stellar blocks.
1/5/19 - SoCal Preseason All-State - 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, Long, athletic frame with physical projection remaining. Hitting from the left side, Imbach has a nice smooth line drive lefty swing. Was inconsistent during his BP round in terms of his contact point, but did show good bat speed to go along with quick hands. Very simple load with a small leg kick, very controlled and balanced through his swing. Defensively, Imbach was an athlete behind the dish, where he was quick to his feet and moved side to side well. Pop times ranged between 1.94-2.02. Delivered strong and accurate throws around the bag as well. Very intriguing athlete with lots of potential remaining.
1/5/19 - SoCal Preseason All-State Quick Hits - Imbach has the size and durable frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, that projects well for his future behind the plate. Ran a 7.17 60 yard dash to start things off before showing the power in his left-handed swing during BP where he has a gap-to-gap approach. Registered an 85 mph exit velocity. Popped in the 1.94 - 2.02 range with accuracy to the bag and a 75 mph position velocity.
