3/15/24
A transfer from Western Illinois, Mitchell was frequently on the barrel in the Hoosiers series loss against Troy. At 5-foot-10, 185-pounds with a compact lefthanded stroke, Mitchell draws comparisons to Adam Eaton in the box. He sprayed the ball all over the Bart Kaufmann field this weekend, pulling a 405-foot HR down the line in one game and legging out a triple in the gap in the next. The Hoosiers leadoff hitter showed the type of zone awareness and contact oriented approach this weekend one likes to see at the top of the order.
8/15/23

Cape Cod: Will take his talents to Bloomington after two years as a successful catalyst for the Leathernecks. He started this summer with Y-D but spent most of the Cape season in Hyannis, finishing with an aggregate .266 average, four doubles and three triples in 128 at-bats. He’s a 5-foot-9, 180-pound lefthanded slasher who impressed me with the quality of his at-bats — he’s a pesky out thanks to his pitch recognition and barrel awareness. He has a bit of sneaky pop as well, though he’ll be more of a gap-to-gap hitter than a homer threat. He’s a plus runner who defends well in the outfield, and he could really boost his stock with a strong year in the Big Ten.

Western Illinois commit– SS In the leadoff spot now. He is a dead red hitter with bat speed and barrel control. Usually does not take pitches. Displayed some good bat speed and barrel control swings, had a good infield single where he just flat out ran faster than the throw. He has good accelerated speed displayed when he hit a fly ball to CF that the CF misplayed and he flew around the bases with ease. Defense made some plays, had one troubled throw ball that hindered the score slightly but he battled back with some good plays. His presence at the top of lineup is hard to open up against as he will hit and hit at next level.

10/17/20

Nicholas Mitchell: SS/2B, (2021) Carmel, IN. Western Illinois Commit, 5-foot-8, 170-pound athletic frame. Athletic at the plate, the left-handed hitter's 93 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with some power. Began in a closed stance with a controlled load, then used a quick stride to start his swing. Has an upward swing plane, raw bat speed and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up multiple balls during the round. From the outfield, he made throws to the infield at velocities up to 86 mph. Above average showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 86 mph; has quick feet, a clean exchange and twitchy hands. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a  60 time of 6.59.

2/09/19

Five foot 7, 160 pounds, hits from the left side in a balanced setup. Uses a short load and good rhythm to get to a good launch position. Creates good bat speed using a really good lower half back leg drive forward and had a max exit velocity of 82 mph. Nicolas had raw infield actions with a good short arm action and good release to record an infield velocity of 74 mph. Needs to work on his footwork to be a better infielder.
