Unsigned Senior Event (September 19, 2015)
The 6-foot-4 left-hander pitched with much better poise at this event. He faced five batters in this appearance, striking out the first two he faced. He only allowed one runner to reach base; a well-hit triple down the left field line. He featured a two-pitch mix at the event; fastball and curveball. His fastball velocity was 78-83 miles-per-hour and he showed much better command of the pitch down in the zone. His curveball was sweeping in action at 68-70 MPH. He seemed to be in sync mechanically, still struggling to find efficiency from his lower half. The broad-shouldered Gloucester Catholic LHP also seems to collect outs and should add velocity once someone corrects the collapse of his back side.
NJ Top Prospect Games (July 16, 2015)
Grafton is a 6-foot-4 left-hander with broad shoulders who comes from a storied high school with a history of quality pitching prospects. He pitches with rhythm in the windup and has a very solid pick off move out of the stretch. He pitches from a ¾ slot and a long, whippy arm action with some elbow climb on the back end. He pitched with a three-pitch mix and showed well. His fastball velocity was largely 79-84 and was thrown more aggressively to his glove side. When throwing to his arm side, he showed solid command and arm side run but wasn’t as aggressive as his arm seemed to drag. His curveball was had sweeping action, almost in a slurve shape with good spin. He showed the ability to back door a right-handed hitter and back-foot him as well. The breaking ball velocity was 68-70 MPH. He also flashed a potential plus changeup at 74-76 with arm side fade.
