Carita, a 2018 right-handed pitcher from Island Trees HS, stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs a solid 170 pounds. Pitching- Begins from the third base side of the rubber with both hands held just above the waist. Gets to the gathered position of the delivery, using a significant step towards the first base line while the pivot foot drags across the rubber to the first base side, in addition, the lead knee is elevated waist high while the lead toe is angled down towards the ground and hands are elevated just above the height of the chest. During the landing the lead leg drifts across the body and when the foot sticks the lead toe is angled towards the arm side while the lead elbow is able to stay fairly close and compact. Loses some back leg extension during the delivery phase due to a premature locking of the lead knee. The fastball, thrown from a mid to high ¾ arm slot, showed life topping out 80 MPH while sitting consistently between 79-80. Command of the fastball could improve with some mechanical adjustments to help stay on top of the ball during the release. The curveball, topping out at 66 MPH, showed an inconsistent shape, but evidence of tight rotation and possible 12-to-6 action were shown. Again with some mechanical adjustments should be able to command the pitch with more authority. Also featured a split-fingered fastball, that showed quality bite and downward movement while topping out at 65 MPH, as well as a changeup that showed good differential at 71 MPH and quality arm side run as well as sink. Live arm, with some adjustments to the lower half, should pick more velocity as well as command.
