Dawson Pierce: C/RHP, (2021) Chagrin Falls, OH. Marietta College Commit, 6-foot-3, 225-pound physical frame. On the mound, showing quick arm speed he had a high ¾ arm angle with a loose arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Athletic balance point. Produced a fastball that came in at 83-86 mph; showed running action and glove side command. His sharp curveball (68-69) has plus action. Shows fading action and arm side control on his changeup (71-74).

7/28/20

Hit: Very impressive round. Looks the part in the box. 6-foot-3 with a fluid yet explosive stroke. Landed on balls to pull side in BP with an exit velocity consistently over 90mph. Put one way out in BP to pull side.
Power: Loft power to pull.
Offensive Projection: Run producer.
Max BP Exit Velocity: 101mph.
Max BP Distance: 361ft.
Field: Physical guy with functional athleticism that plays both behind the dish and third base. Solid, versatile defender.
Throw: Well above average tool.
Defensive Projection: C/Corner guy.

Scouting Notes: Stock up here. After showing 101mph EV in BP the two-way power prospect hops on the mound and runs it up to 88mph multiple times. Also snapped off a sharp, downer breaking ball and a playable changeup.
Fastball: 85-88mph
Fastball Spin Rate: 1760-2117

Breaking Ball Spin Rate: 2118-2353

7/06/20

Hit: Looks the part in the box. 6-foot-3, physical bat with easy jump off the barrel. Bat tip allows for natural lift through the zone. Backspun everything to both gaps. A lot to like here.
Power: Legit power potential.
Offensive Projection: Middle of lineup.
Max BP Exit Velocity: 96 mph
Max BP Distance: 355 ft
Field: Versatile defender that showed well behind the dish and at third base. Combination of physicality, athleticism and arm strength will be intriguing to college coaches.
Throw: Above average arm.
Defensive Projection: C/3B.

Scouting Notes: Legit two-way prospect. Very physical presence on the mound with a live arm. Sat 85-86 mph with more than playable secondary offerings. Breaking ball was sharp and changeup rides through the zone.
Fastball: 84-87mph.
Fastball Spin Rate: 2063-2193
Breaking Ball: 69-72mph.
Breaking Ball Spin Rate: 2157-2288

2/16/20

2/16/20 Position Player
Hit: Upright setup in the box with a simple quiet load, and an uphill path through the zone. This creates for varied ball flight from floor to ceiling.
Power: 97 mph exit velocity off the tee. Present power
Offensive Projection: Run producer
Field: Comfortable in his setup, along with good body control and transfer.
Throw: POP between 1.98-2.06. 76 mph from the crouch
Defensive Projection: UTL

2/16/20 Pitching
Delivery Notes: Not a lot of excess movement in the delivery. Comes straight over the top creating a downward angle on his pitches. I think as he gets stronger he will be able to tap into more velocity.
Fastball: Topped at 85 mph, downhill angle, heavy pitch.
Curveball: Between 69-71, very sharp at times, 11/5 look, late bite.
Changeup: 73-76 mph, quality fade.

2/17/19

Body Type: 6-foot-3, 210-pound physical frame.
Swing Mechanics: Balanced stance with a simple, yet efficient approach mechanically.
Hit: Uber physical bat for class. Although strength is advanced bat speed isn’t far behind. Impressive combination of feel and burst for class.
Power: 91 mph exit velocity. Gap to gap pop with emerging power. Ball jumps.
Offensive Projection: Middle of Lineup.
Run: 7.96 60-yard dash.
Field: In the infield he moves light on his feet too and plays through with average to slightly above average ball skills. Corner frame and skill set. Also worked out behind the dish, registering pop times between 1.99-2.07.
Throw: Big arm that plays on the left side and behind the dish. Ball jumps out of his hand. With his cleanliness I could see even more velo out of him down the road.
Defensive Projection: C/3B.

Body Type: 6-foot-3, 210-pound physical frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Athletic actions on the mound. Delivery has an uptempo pace with some effort to it. High-¾ right-hander with a clean arm.
Fastball: 80-84 mph with good life to it. Ball jumps out of the hand.
Breaking Ball: Spins the pitch well that travels on an 11/5 plane. Quality feel for the offering.
Changeup: Decent sell on the offering that has some fade to it at 71-74 mph.
Pitchability: Was in the zone for the most part.

1/12/19

Body Type: 6-foot-3 210-pound prospect with a big frame. Filled out, strong build.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Throws from a ¾ arm slot with a smooth, compact, repeatable  arm action.
Fastball:
79-82 mph fastball showed some life through the zone. Also, showed some sinking action when located down in the zone.
Curveball:
65-67 mph breaking ball had very tight spin and showed potential to become an above average offering.
Changeup:
71-73 mph changeup with arm side run and fade. Killed spin well to create depth and had good command to the arm side.
Pitchability:
Good 3 pitch mix with a changeup and fastball that paired well together. Breaking ball development could give him a very good mix.
Role:
Starter type with his natural movement on his fastball and his best secondary offering, the changeup, working well off his fastball. Definitely room for more velocity to be added to fastball.

Body Type: 6-foot-3 210-pound prospect with a big frame. Filled out, strong build.
Hit: Physical right-hander with a simple, efficient load. Intent driven swing on level path. Generates regular backspin. Would like to see added loft. Impressive natural tools for class.
Power: Well above average for class. Ball jumps. Future pull side power.
Offensive Projection: middle of lineup/run producer.
Run: 7.7 60-yard dash.
Field: Third baseman with obvious feel for the position. Hands work and he maintains momentum through fielding. Solid defender. Also showed an above average skill set behind the dish. Registered pop times of 2.06-2.14.
Throw: 82 mph arm strength across the diamond and 74 mph from the crouch.
Defensive Projection: Corner Infield/C.
Additional Comments: Definite follow in class that can do a lot of things well. Fluid actions in all aspects of his game. Really impressed on the mound and at the plate.

1/21/18

A right-handed hitter that starts in a tall setup. Loading sequence is fluid, incorporating a bat tip during his controlled stride forward. Strength and bat speed are both above average tools through the zone. Ball comes off well, showing easy gap pop. Profiles in the middle of the lineup. Displayed above average catch and throws skills behind the dish. Footwork creates direction and he impressed with arm strength/accuracy. Solid overall performance.

60-Yard Dash: 7.87
Catcher Velocity: 72
Pop Times: 2.14-2.25
