Ohio High School All-Decade Team: 2010-2019

The calendar has flipped to a new decade. With 2020 here and a whole new decade of OHSAA Spring High School Baseball, it's time to look back at the best of the best from the 2010s in the Buckeye State.

Below we take a look at the best Ohio High School baseball had to offer over the past decade. The teams were chosen based on individual performance/statistics during the OHSAA spring seasons between 2010-2019 and the competition the individual faced, with the first tiebreaker coming down to tournament/team success and the final tiebreaker being how they have performed post high school.

Although I got started with PBR Ohio in 2011, I did not start doing comprehensive All-State Teams until 2015, so finding stats from 2010-2014 were difficult to find. To see the All-State teams with detailed statistics from 2015-2019, please click below:

Below you will find the following:

  • All-Decade Players of the Decade: 2010-2019
  • All-Decade Coaches of the Decade: 2010-2019
  • All-Decade Team - The Starting Nine and Pitching Staff
  • All-Decade Team - 1st Team

  • Private vs Public: 2010-2019
  • The Records Of The Decade
  • A Look Ahead At The Next Decade: 2020-2029

Each of us here at PBR Ohio want to thank you for helping us this past decade. We look forward to continuing to bring the best baseball coverage to the Buckeye State.

***** Due to us doing in-depth All-State Teams since 2015 with comprehensive statistics, there are more players included from the years 2015-2019.

***** Also, we know there will be some names missed, if you feel someone should be highlighted within this, please email [email protected] with their Name, Class, High School, HS Stats, Post HS Accolades. Thanks and Enjoy!!

All-Decade Team - The Starting Nine And Pitching Staff

To choose a starting nine along with nine arms from the past decade was a difficult task with so many outstanding choices. Each player in contention put up ridiculous numbers in their high school careers.

The lineup consists of a well-rounded group that has speed and pop throughout the lineup. The arms can get a hitter out in many ways, whether that be a mid-to-upper 90s fastball, a filthy 12/6 curveball or a knee-buckling slider. There is so much talent in the state that I could choose a complete separate group of 18 players and be thrilled with what that team would look like. That said, the players in the starting lineup selected all have similar qualities of dominant high school numbers, team success, impressive talent and post high school success.

Name Class High School
Why in gameday roster?
1 CF
Jase Bowen
2019
Toledo Central Catholic
Why On Roster: Dynamic athlete who was a D1 commit for baseball and football before deciding to sign after being drafted in the MLB draft. Jase did it all for TCC for four years.
Ranking: 4th ranked prospect in the 2019 class
2 LF Andrew Benetendi 2013 Madeira Why On Roster: The overall Position Player of the Decade put up monster numbers in Southwest Ohio. Easy decision to put toward the top of the order.
Ranking: 4th ranked prospect in the 2013 class
3 1B Evan White 2014 Gahanna Lincoln Why On Roster: One of the top gloves in the history of the OHSAA baseball at first base also had an impressive bat.
Ranking: 5th ranked prospect in the 2014 class
4 2B Johnny Fasola 2010 Walsh Jesuit Why On Roster: Holds numerous hitting records at Walsh Jesuit while garnering PoY honors and making three trips to state, winning a state title.
Ranking:
Highly ranked prospect in the 2010 class
5 3B Xavier Turner 2012 Sandusky Why On Roster: 5th all time in hits in state history. A gamechanger in the lineup, who can impact the game in multiple ways.
Ranking: 3rd ranked prospect in the 2012 class
6  DH Jacob Bosiokovic 2012 Delaware Hayes Why On Roster: Two-time player of the year in Division I, this 6-6/210-pounder could put a hurting on the ball.
Ranking: 5th ranked prospect in the 2012 class
7 C Alex Lavisky 2010 Lakewood St. Edward Why On Roster: A great athlete with a solid stick and good defensive skills who helped St. Eds win two state titles.
Ranking:
Highly ranked prospect in the 2010 class
8 RF Jared King 2010 Dublin Jerome Why On Roster: Division I Player of the Year who turned into a 5th round pick.
Ranking: Highly ranked by prospect in the 2010 class
9 SS Riley Mahan 2014 Moeller Why On Roster: When I chose the shortstop for the team, the 2013 Division I State Final Four comes to mind, where Mahan went 7-9 in the tournament, scored three runs and drove in three while playing stellar defense. Mahan also went 5-5 in the semifinals win, tying a state record for hits in a game. Great bat, solid glove.
Ranking: 7th ranked prospect in the 2014 class
- SP Cameron Varga 2014
CHCA
Why On Roster: The Pitcher of the Decade gets the ball to start the game. His stuff was pure filth. One of the top three-pitch mixes we have seen.
Ranking: 1st ranked prospect in the 2014 class
- RP 1 Eric Lauer 2013
Midview Why On Roster: Lauer gets the ball first out of the bullpen for many reasons, but in general, the southpaw was unhittable in high school. Fastball up to 92 with swing and miss secondary stuff.
Ranking: 2nd ranked prospect in the 2013 class
-
RP 2 Dace Kime 2010
Defiance
Why On Roster: Three dominant seasons for one of the top schools in the state. Big-bodied righty with a low-90s fastball and sharp breaking 12/6 breaker made the future 3rd round draft pick one of the tougher arms to hit this past decade.
Ranking: Highly ranked by prospect in the 2010 class
-
RP 3 Evan Shawver
2018
Amherst Steele
Why On Roster: Another southpaw in the staff with a fastball into the low-90s that is complimented by swing and miss secondary offerings. Put up big time numbers.
Ranking: 11th ranked prospect in the 2018 class
-
RP 4 Zach Willeman
2014
Napoleon
Why On Roster: Low-90s fastball with a devastating 12/6 breaker made the righty our pick on the staff. The filthy repertoire was evident everytime he got on the mound. Over two Ks per inning pitched his senior year while playing in a conference of Division I schools while Napoleon is a Division II school says it all.
Ranking: 4th ranked prospect in the 2014 class
-
RP 5 Tyler Skulina 2010 Walsh Jesuit Why On Roster: A true winner with electric stuff from a power program in the Buckeye State. This righty did not lose a game in high school while helping his team advance to state three times while winning one Division II state title. 6-6, 235- pound righty with low-90s fastball to go along with a slider and change.
Ranking: Highly ranked prospect in the 2010 class
-
RP 6 Shay Smiddy
2016
Defiance
Why On Roster: Upper-80s, up to 90 mph fastball along with an upper-70s 12/6 breaker and mid-70s changeup is part of why the righty is on the list. The other reasons would be his competitiveness and winning ways. Two-time state champion while earning three wins and a save in Defiance's four games at state in 2015/2016 while also winning a state title on the hardwood in a remarkable run.
Ranking: 9th ranked prospect in the 2016 class
- Setup Seth Lonsway
2017
Celina
Why On Roster: Low-90s fastball with wipeout complementary pitches from the left side made Lonsway an easy pick to be one of the nine arms. Lonsway and Smiddy had some classic matchups within their Western Buckeye League rivalry.
Ranking: 1st ranked prospect in the 2017 class
- Closer Stetson Allie
2010
Lakewood St. Edward
Why On Roster: Allie was before my time scouting high school baseball, but from what I have seen in videos, read in reports and from what I have heard from coaches I talked with, this guy was absolutely  electric in high school. An upper-90s fastball with a plus slider that gets up to 91 mph sounds like a guy I would love as my closer for the All-Decade team.
Ranking: Highly ranked by prospect in the 2010 class
