6/12/18 Defensively, hands are soft in receiving and framing. Considerable lateral range is demonstrated in blocking. Boyd would benefit from maintaining a steeper trunk angle in blocking. Transfer and throwing motion have length on throws of 67 mph. A POP of 2.31 was registered.
Offensively, initiates swing from neutral set up with short stride staying neutral. Early hand leak and passive weight shift reduce separation. Dropping of hands and limited backside release contribute to an uphill swing path. Athleticism and barrel feel resulted in squaring of multiple balls during round of BP. An 80 MPH bat exit velocity was registered.
On the mound, Working out of a mid 3/4 arm slot shows the ability to repeat a moderate effort delivery. There is front side softness following stride foot contact resulting in subtle dropping of the elbow and difficulty maintaining a downhill plane. FB was commanded at 66-67 MPH. CB at 54 MPH showed 11-5 shape and minimal depth. CH sat 64 and was thrown with good sell while lacking movement.
