6/12/18 Defensively, gets behind ball and catches at it's height. Attacks and plays through ground balls off glove side foot while following throws. Arm strength of 77 mph was registered.
Offensively, initiates swing from slightly open with a short stride staying open. There is rhythm, balance and athleticism to swing. Zick flashes ability to get bat on plane early and maintain late while staying behind the ball. He would benefit from staying more connected to back shoulder. Barrel feel was demonstrated with routine squaring of ball in BP. A bat exit velocity of 81 mph was registered.
On the mound Zick worked out of a mid 3/4 arm slot with excellent balance and rhythm. Delivery is low effort and repeatable. FB sat 78-79 mph with subtle arm side run. CB at 69-71 showed 11-5 shape and at best late, sharp, break with moderate depth. CH at 72-75 lacks separation but is thrown with good sell and has late arm side fade. Zick was able to command all offerings on this day. Benefit would be gained from more efficient use of lower half. However, overall presentation suggests coming velocity gains making for an interesting follow.
