8-1-2018: The talented sophomore still has two more college seasons left before he has to worry about the MLB draft, but could he become the next Aaron Hernandez? Hernandez, of course, was an unheralded prospect who formed into a third-round pick to the Angels after a solid junior campaign with the Islanders. Perez had an ERA north of five and struggled with consistency this past season, but has made significant improvements this summer, tallying a 2.80 ERA in 41.2 innings, along with 39 strikeouts, and most impressive, just 14 walks. Perez has a stocky, strong frame with a thick lower half at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds. He threw all fastballs in his limited work at the NWL ASG, comfortably sitting 90-91. Keep an eye on Perez moving forward. There’s potential there. (K Rogers)
