12.14.19 Preseason I.D. - 2023 Prospect Analysis

Jack Tomas SS / RHP / Bishop England, SC / 2023

5-5, 110lbs. Compact build. Youthful appearance, just beginning his physical maturation. 8.69 sixty time (laser). 69 mph exit velocity (tee). 54 mph INF velocity. Wide, balanced stance with the hands set just off the back shoulder. Short leg lift and medium stride. Showed the ability to get on plane early. Line drive approach and good rotation with the lower half. Smooth footwork. Soft hands and smooth exchanges. Longer arm action and OTT arm slot. Player development will build the current skill set. On the mound, used a balance point just above the belt. Deep take away from separation, into an abbreviated arm action. Max FB 57 mph, controlled the pitch in the zone. Big breaking CB at 48 mph. CH was 48 mph with feel. Falls off the mound to the 1st base side on the follow through. Good pitchibility will be aided with further physical development.

Ty Marshall C / 3B / Brookland Cayce , SC / 2023

 5-8, 160lbs. Lean athletic build. Proportional frame, mixture of strength/athleticism present.  7.44 sixty time (laser). 81 mph exit velocity RH. 81 mph exit velocity LH (tee). 2.13-2.19 POP range. 74 mph C velocity. Switch hitter uses a balanced stance, slightly open. Starts with the hands in a higher position, just off the ear. Medium leg kick with medium stride length. Controlled tempo. Stride lands slightly closed from the left side. Hands load down and back at foot strike with a short coil in the barrel. Works the barrel through the zone on a slightly uphill path. Showed consistent ability to elevate balls into the gaps. Behind the plate, showed an athletic set up with good bend in the hips. Quick hands and smooth exchanges. Throws showed some fade to the arm side from a 3Q slot. Solid defender will be worth following

Parker Mergo 1B / LHP / Brookland-Cayce, SC / 2023

5-9, 135lbs. 7.34 sixty time (laser). 72 mph exit velocity (tee). 67 mph INF velocity. LHH with a balanced, athletic stance. Loose handset. Short stride, lands softly and loads the hands back. Controlled tempo. Showed the ability to the keep the hands inside the ball and use the entire field with a line drive approach. Natural loft in the bat path. Stop and start footwork at 1B. Choppy footwork at times. Confident in the hands and clean exchanges. Developing body control will assist footwork around the bag. Max FB 70 mph. CB 62-63 mph. CH 63-65 mph.

Davis Rising 2B / RHP / Chesnee , SC / 2023

5-9, 145lbs. Medium build with slender frame. Body will support additional development.  7.77 sixty time. (laser). 82 mph exit velocity (tee). 72 mph INF velocity. RHH with a tall open stance. Relaxed hand set. Moderate stride and small hand load use a controlled tempo. Uphill path to contact with a middle of the field approach. Showed consistent on barrel contact during BP. Works to maintain momentum through the fielding process. Let some ground balls get deep. Confident hands, exchanges at the belt and clean arm action. Repeatable delivery, slightly rotational. Full arm action, limited extension. 73 mph max FB showed good control. SL 60 mph. Split 64 mph

John Wimmer SS / OF / Rock Hill, SC / 2023

5-11, 145lbs. Athletic player with a high waist and good length in the extremities. Upside. 7.30 sixty time (laser). 82 mph exit velocity (tee). 84 mph INF velocity. RHH with a narrow, open stance and loose rhythm with the hands pre load. Medium high leg kick and long stride. Hands end in a deep position over the back foot and turn the barrel at foot strike. Showed the ability to get onto plane and release the barrel through contact. Gap to gap approach with enough juice to carry the gaps. Rangy infielder has twitchy actions. Smooth exchanges and a clean release. Enough carry to stick on the left side of the infield

Ethan Belk OF / RHP / Legion Collegiate Academy, SC / 2023

 5-10, 170lbs. Medium athletic build. Strong lower half, youthful appearance will continue to develop physically. 6.89 sixty time (laser). 86 mph exit velocity (tee). 83 mph OF velocity. RHH with a balanced stance, controlled stride and good balance. Flat path to contact with good POP. Full rotation in the lower half. Good feel for the barrel, ball jumps when he catches it cleanly. Athletic OF with smooth transfers and a strong arm. Throws showed good accuracy and carry to the target. RHP repeated a max effort delivery well. Abbreviated take away to an OTT arm slot. Controlled a max FB of 82 mph to both sides of the plate. CB (68-71) showed occasional bite and 11/5 to 10/4 varying shape. Matching hand speed on a CH at 71-72.

Braden McWhorter C / OF / Carolina Forest, SC / 2023

K Xavier Pelzer LHP / OF / Legion Collegiate, SC / 2023

Grant Loggins RHP / 3B / A C Flora, SC / 2023

6-1, 170lbs. Rounded shoulders and length in the limbs. Strong lower half will continue to improve. Will be an imposing figure as he matures.  7.57 sixty time (laser). 82 mph exit velocity (tee). 82 mph infield velocity. Simple stance at the shoulders, slightly open. Relaxed hand set just off the shoulders. Simple barrel coil at foot strike. Uphill bat path at contact. Spinal alignment suggests a more uphill path will develop. Gap to gap approach with future power potential. Smooth fielding infielder with good tempo. Soft hands, quick release. RHP with a small rocker step and athletic balance point. Level shoulder alignment and full arm action on the backside with a pronounced scap load. Good extension down the mound, landing square to the target and repeating the delivery consistently. Showed good control of a 81 mph max FB. Advanced CB with 11/5 shape and sharp bit, range 64-66. Used a CH as a 3rd pitch with a range of 68-69 and heavy tendencies.
