St. Ignatius senior infielder Quillan Austria isn't your typical student-athlete.

With a 4.4 grade point average and the status of being a National Merit Scholar to his name, Austria meets the requirements to attend some of the nation's top academic institutions.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, the athletic middle infielder from northeast Ohio has the speed, athleticism, and versatility to help a program at the next level.

"Since my primary focus is academics, at this time I am looking at the University of Pennsylvania, Denison University, and the College of Wooster," he explained.

In October, Austria visited Denison and he was quick to say, "It was definitely an eye-opening experience. The campus was beautiful and the students were relaxed." During the trip, he was impressed by the campus, specifically the newly renovated and expanded Mitchell Center. He also spent time with Head Coach Mike Deegan. Reflecting on their conversation, Austria noted, "He spoke about changing the culture of the program and that I would be a part of his first true recruiting class since he took over as head coach late in the summer of 2012."

Soon after visiting Denison, Austria headed to Wooster, where he was equally as impressed. Despite having been to Wooster for camp and games in the past, the infielder was quick to note, "Touring the campus allowed me to meet some of the ballplayers and walk the open grounds." Having a past relationship with Coach Pettorini, Austria said the head coach "was his usual enthusiastic and fatherly self."

Unfortunately, Austria had to cancel his visit to the University of Pennsylvania in September due to a family emergency. Still, he is well aware of the institution's history, tradition, and academics.

At this point, Austria doesn't have any other visits planned. He will well immersed in school work and completing college applications.

He admits, "If I go out of state, it will be the University of Pennsylvania."

But, if he stays in state, Austria has a tough decision.

Right now, he explains, "If I stay in Ohio, I am leaning towards Denison."
