2013 Spotlight: Brad Hartman, SS, St. Joseph's HS



Brad Hartman, is a 6-foot, 155 lb. junior shortstop with good athleticism.  In the field he shows quick feet and plays through the ball well.  His hands are soft and has the ability to pick it.  He gets rid of the ball quick and shows a good arm at 80 mph. Hartman displays good speed, running a 6.79 sixty at the event.  At the plate he displays an open stance with good bat speed. His hitting mechanics need some refinement, but shows good barrel whip, producing some pop.

PBR: As you enter your junior year in high school, where are you currently in the recruiting process?
Brad: I have been contacted by many colleges and have gone on unofficial visits. I am really looking forward to meeting more coaches and scouts this summer.

PBR: What are your expectations for the recruiting process?
Brad: To attract some of the top programs in the country. I am really excited about the recruiting process because college coaches know so much about the game of baseball and I can’t wait to learn from the best to make me a better overall player and person.

PBR: What level of baseball do you see yourself playing at the next level?
Brad: I am motivated to put the effort into my game that Division 1 coaches would expect.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?
Brad: I am interested in several schools, but I have not yet narrowed down my options. I would prefer a school with a strongly supported baseball program while also meeting my academic needs.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Brad: To continue to develop my pitch recognition to be a more consistent hitter.

PBR: What are your personal goals for the upcoming 2012 season?
Brad: To be selected to first team All Conference at second base with an above .400 batting average.

PBR: What are your high school team goals for the upcoming 2012 season?
Brad: We have strong competition this year and our team goal is to win conference and to be successful in the state tournament.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Brad: 17U Indiana Chargers. I like the way the Chargers develop us as players while preparing us for college level baseball.

PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2011 baseball season (High School or Summer)?
Brad: When I received my invitation to represent Indiana at the Under Armor Future Games in Chicago last summer.

PBR: What were your stats for your 2011 HS season? Summer Season?
Brad: The Chargers Organization does not keep statistics because they want the players to remain focused solely on getting better. They believe statistics talk about yesterday and they want us players to be focused on today and tomorrow. 

PBR: What is your GPA? ACT or SAT score? If you have not taken it do you have a planned date?
Brad: GPA: 2.8 at Saint Joseph’s High School

SAT: 1010/1800

PBR: Have you decided on a major or narrowed it down?
Brad: I do not see myself ever being away from the game of baseball so I would like to pursue a profession like coaching, training, or management.
