Sylvania Southview 3, Anthony Wayne 1

Sylvania Southview (18-9) defeats Anthony Wayne (20-9) 3-1, as the Cougars capitalized on four General errors. Junior shortstop Colin Boerst had three singles, a stolen base and a run scored. Tyler Stambaugh and Spencer Perry each had an RBI while Jake Holloway and John Malak each scored a run for Southview. Anthony Wayne was led by gifted freshman Evan Brown's two singles and a run scored while Austin Kottenbrock had an RBI. Senior shortstop Alex Murphy had a single and triple to end his career.

Southview's started Alexander Theiss went the distance allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out five with no walks. AW's Josh Schwerer went four innings allowing three runs (1 ER) on five hits while striking out three and walking three. Aaron Stark came in relief, going three innings allowing just two hits and two walks without giving up a run.

North Royalton 4, Lakewood St. Edward 1

Division II

Jonathan Alder 4, Bellefontaine 0

JA (25-4) and Bellefontaine (26-6) were scoreless through six innings with both teams playing good defense while having outstanding pitching from Tanner Gaerke and Kyle Brunner (one hit through six innings). However, in the top of the seventh the Pioneers had four successful bunts in route to four runs and a Regional semifinal victory.

JA started the seventh with a John Peters line drive to right that went off of Bellefontaines RF glove. Trent Kaltenbach laid down a bunt and Brunner fielded the ball, turned to throw to first, however nobody was there. With runners on first and second Luke Nees laid down a bunt, Brunner fielded the ball and looked to throw to third. However, the throw was late which loaded the bases. After a popout, JA coach Craig Kyle went for a squeeze and Brunner tried to make a play at the plate but the ball sailed over the head of the catcher allowing Peters and Kaltenbach to score. After a pitching change, Cody Rankin laid down another successful squeeze to put JA on top 3-0. But that wasn't it on the play as Rankin raced around third, sliding in a home safely before the tag to put JA on top 4-0. Gaerke finished out the game allowing just five hits and three walks in the shutout.

Monroe 8, Tipp City Tippecanoe 3

Monroe stunned Tipp City Tippecanoe 8-3 to advance to the Regional final. Junior pitcher Jake Mitchell allowed two runs in the first, but settled down, retiring the next 17 batters in order, not allowing a runner to reach base until the seventh. 

Mitchell ended up going 6.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six. In the seventh, Tippecanoe scored a run and loaded the bases with two outs but Monroe went to junior Troy Beck who induced a fly ball to end the game. Monroe scored four runs in the fifth and never looked back.

Pennisula Woodridge 3, Poland Seminary 2

Woodridge (28-3) defeated Poland Seminary (21-7) 3-2 to advance to the Regional final. It wasn't easy for Woodridge as Poland Seminay had the tying run on third base with two outs in the seventh but junior closer Mike Walter got senior second baseman Chase Knodle to fly out to center.

Woodridge got the two big in the third inning off of Poland Seminary starter Pat Carlozzi, who no-hit West Branch in his last start. Carlozzi retired the first two Woodridge batters on just eight pitches, however, the next four batters made him throw 18 more and scored two runs in the process, with the big hit coming from Kevin Kelleher, a two-run, two-out double to score Christian Owens and Tom Morehouse.

Kelleher was the starter for Woodridge, throwing six innings and improving to 5-1 with the win. Kelleher allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four. Carlozzi went 6.2 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks while striking out nine

Notre Dame-Cathedrel Latin 7, Canton South 0

NDCL junior Ryan Falls went six innings allowing just two hits in a 7-0 win over Canton South. The LHP walked two while striking out 10. Falls ERA has improved to a microscopic 0.78 ERA with 64 Ks. 

In the third NDCL's Anthony Leonetti had a two run double, later scoring on a Falls single while senior Connor Kaucic added a fourth run with an RBI double. NDCL added three more runs before Connor Kaucic came in for the seventh, retiring South's 6-7-8 hitters in order.

Bloom Carrol 12, Jackson 0

Dover 7, Steubenville 1

Bryan 3, Wapakoneta 1

Bryan (21-8) continued their impressive tournament run with a 3-1 win over Wapakoneta (20-10). Junior Bailey Martin went the distance for the Golden Bears allowing one run (0 ER) on just three hits and two walks while striking out six.

The Golden Bears got to senior Chace Culver who allowed three runs on 10 hits. Austin Martin had the big hit in the game with a two-run single in the seventh. Junior Nate Rau had three singles and a run scored, senior Jordan Bostater had a single, run scored and RBI, Thomas Martin had a single and run scored and junior Kyle Rupp had two singles.

Sandusky Perkins 10, LaGrange Keystone 0, six innings

Sandusky Perkins (25-5) cruised past a talented LaGrange Keystone squad 10-0 in six innings. Junior Ohio State commit Braun Miller was dominant as the lefty went the distance allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out 14 while facing 20 batters.

At the plate, the Pirates were led by Miller (single, double, RBI), Thane Walton (2 singles, 2 RBIs), Tyler Puckrin (2 singles, 2 RBIs) and Tanner Trent (2 singles, 2 runs, RBI).

Division III

Youngstown Ursuline 7, Gilmour Academy 5

Youngstown Ursuline rallied from behind to defeat Gilmour Academy 7-5. Ursuline is just one game away from Columbus for a second straight season.

Joel Hake picked up the win for Youngstown Ursuline while Brandon Jaces gets the loss for Gilmour Academy. Michael Montalbano paced the Fighting Irish offense with two hits and two RBIs while Zach Patton had two hits and three RBIs.

Orrville 1, Independence 0

Orrville nipped Independence 1-0 in a 12 inning classic. Wes Stauffer started for Orrville and went eight innings allowing just one hit while striking out one. Mike Martin started for Independence and went 10 innings, striking out eight. Orrville's Layne Scheufler went 4-fot-4 on the day and also scored the lone run of the game in the 12th as Independence relief pitcher Darren Krowlinkowski balked with runners on first and third. Stuart Schley picked up the win in relief for the Red Riders.

Dayton Chaminade-Julienne 2, Hamilton Badin 1

Chaminade-Julienne made the phrase "third times the charm" work to its benefit in the Regional semifinal as CJ defeated Greater Catholic League Coed rival 2-1 after losing to Badin twice in the regular season.

CJ's Kyle Shoup (six innings) and Chandler Spees combined on a five-hitter. CJ's first two batters of the game, Spees and Alex Livingston scored both of CJ's runs. Spees was HBP and Livingston walked before coming home on singles by Stephen Hoendorf and Will Duffy. Badin's lone run came from Kade Carlyle who scored on a two-out single by Cole Heflin.

Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy 7, Anna 0

Cam Varga was on his game again as CHCA (25-2) blanked Anna (24-7) 7-0 to advance to the Regional Finals. Varga was dominant as the righty struck out 17 batters, allowing just two hits. CHCA scored once in the first and third innings, twice in the fourth and three more times in the fifth.

Josh Robinson struck out seven in four innings of work while Alex Brinkman and Wes Showalter pitched in relief as Anna's hurlers struck out 11 total batters.

Coldwater 7, Fredericktown 3

Coldwater (27-4) advances to the Regional Final after defeated Fredericktown 7-3. The Cavaliers will face an upstart Huron team. Junior Derek Thobe went six innings allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out seven.

In the 2nd. 1-out single by Grant Muhlenkamp (sb), walk to Adam Klosterman, and a 2-out rbi single by Matt Kramer scored Muhlenkamp. **Adam Klosterman stole home (slow wind up) for 2nd run. (2-0)

In the 3rd. 2-out rib single by Mitch Heyne scored Drew Otten who reached on a FC after Brody Hoying leadoff single. (3-0)

In the 5th. 1-out triple by Hoying to RC gap followed by double off the wall in RF by Otten....4-0... leadoff bunt single by Fredericktown 9 hitter followed by 2 more hits plates Freddies first run....4-1

In the 6th. 1-out walk to Klosterman, single by Aaron Harlamert...Klosterman scores from second on a FC by Kramer who beat out the 6-4-3 double play attempt...5-1

In the 7th. 2-out walk to Bettinger...pinch-runner Brandon Wolters scores on Heyne double to RC wall.  Heyne scores on Muhlenkamp single....7-1....Kunk in relief of Thobe....Fred. Scores 2 runs on 2 walks and 2 hits.

Huron 3, Millbury Lake 2

Huron (21-7) stunned Millbury Lake (27-4) and ace Jace Vancena 3-2 to advance to the Regional final.

Huron got on top in the first with two runs. Jack Hufnagle singled to lead-off the game, advanced to second on a bloop single from Zach Souter with one out. Hufnagle scored on a single from Tommy Bogden, sliding around Lake’s catcher Nick Walsh for the game’s first run. Andrew Dowell hustled out a groundball that looked to be an inning ending 4-6-3 double play, but was safe at first.S outer never stopped running and scored from second on the fielder’s choice to give Huron a 2-0 lead early.

Huron pushed across another run in the fifth on a botched run down play as with first and third, Huron ran a double steal and the throw to first was dropped allowing Hufnagle to score from third

Lake had a chance in the seventh as they cut the deficit to 3-2 and had the bases loaded with two outs, but relief pitcher Tommy Bogden induced a grounder to short to end the game.

Lake stranded eight runners in scoring position, finishing the day 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Vancena ended with 10 strikeouts on the day while Kovach had nine.

Marion Elgin 3, Bellaire 0

Elgin (21-4) blanked Bellaire (18-9) 3-0 to advance to the Regional final. Comet starter C.J. Flach went the distance on the mound allowing just six hits and no walk while striking out four. 

The scored remained scoreless until the fourth. Dalton Brown walk and stole second to start the inning. Another walk put two on and both advanced a base after a wild pitch. Against a drawn-in infield Cantyn Belmer singled to score pinch runner Andy Mosher. After another out, Elgin went up 2-0 on a groundout. Elgin made it 3-0 in the fifth after Flach doubled and scored on a Sam Hardin in which Bellaire made an error on the throw.

Wheelersburg 3, Frankfort Adena 0

The back-to-back state champs, Wheersburg advances to the Regional Finals for another chance to reach Columbus. Wheelersburg and starting pitcher Wade Martin blanked Adena 3-0.

Martin struck out 11 batters while allowing just three hits. Wheelersburg got their runs in the first and third. In the first, Garrett Carmichael scored from second base on a fly ball to the outfield that was misplayed. In the third, an RBI triple by Martin started the frame. Dylan Miller roped a liner off of Adena pitcher Ethan Sheppard leg, Sheppard made the play at first, but Miller scored to put Wheelersburg on top 3-0. 

Division IV

Patrick Henry 13, McComb 2

Defiance Tinora 12, Toledo Christian 1

Cincinnati Country Day 9, Convington 4

County Day (19-6) advanced to the Regional Final after a 9-4 victory over Covington.

With the scored tied 2-2 in the fifth, freshman first baseman Charlie Sachs plated two on a two-run single, later scoring on a Kevin Geohegan base hit. County Day added three runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh. Junior Cam Alldred threw a complete game on the mound for Country Day.

Convoy Crestview 7, Fort Loramie 4

Convoy Crestview capitalized on some costly errors by Fort Loramie (20-11) to advance to the Regional final after a 7-4 victory. Only two of the seven runs were earned.

Leading 1-0 in the fifth, a number of errors led to four runs for the Knights. After Crestview added two more runs to go up 7-1, Loramie rallied in the bottom of the seventh when Crestview’s ace, Damian Helm (IPFW commit), was lifted in favor of senior Cam Etzler. Loramie's Grant Olberding laced a three-rum homer, and Crestview decided to re-insert Helm into the game, and he got the final out with the tying run on base.

Etzler had two singles, a double and two RBIs while Isaiah chipped in with a solo home run.

Steubenville Catholic Central 6, Paint Valley 1

Steubenville Catholic Central was impressive as the Crusaders defeated Pain Valley 6-1 to setup a Regional final match-up against defending champ Newark Catholic.

The Crusaders jumped on top in the first with two runs and a double play in the bottom half kept SCC up 2-0 after one. Paint Valley cut the deficit in half in the second on an infield single by Caleb Johnson scoring Mark Clifford who doubled earlier.

SCC broke the game open in the fourth. After an RBI triple made the score 3-1, back-to-back walks loaded the bases and emptied the bases on a bases clearing triple.

Newark Catholic 4, Glouster Trimble 1

Newark Catholic (18-8) continues their tournament run as the Green Wave advanced to the Regional Final after a 4-1 win over Glouster Trimble (17-6). This was the fourth time NC and Trimble met in Regionals since 2001, with NC winning all four match-ups (40-4 score differential).

With the score tied 1-1, the Green Wave scored three runs in the sixth. After a lead-off walk, Conor Keck had an RBI triple to right-center off Trimble reliever Jacob Kish to give NC a 2-1 lead. Kish allowed two more runners before giving the ball to Dante Brammer. However, Mitch Lohr and then Mike Lohr greated Brammer with RBI singles through the infield to push the lead to 4-1 going into the seventh.

NC reliever Rob Engle for the win as he retired five of the six batters he faced including two strikeouts to defuse a two-on, one-out situation when the game was tied 1-1. Sean Thomas started for NC and went 5.1 innings allowing seven hits while striking out seven.

Berlin Center Western Reserve 5, St. Thomas Aquinas 3

Western Reserve defeated St. Thomas Aquinas (18-8), 5-3 as they capitalized on four Aquinas errors. 

Wyatt Larimer paced the Devils offense the shortstop went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored.

Cuyahoga Heights 1, Attica Seneca East 0

The number one ranked team in Division IV fell 1-0 in nine innings in a classic pitchers duel. Cuyahoga Heights Zac Lowther (17 Ks) and Seneca East's Mason McWilliams (16 Ks) combined for 33 strikeouts while allowing just three total hits.

In the ninth, with two outs and Craig McDaniel at third, a grounder to shortstop on an 0-2 count looked to be the final out of the inning, however the throw went past the first baseman, allowing McDaniel to score the game's only run. McDaniel had two hits in the game and led the ninth inning off with a single and stole third with two outs.
