2018 FUTURE GAMES - TEAM Massachusetts DAY 1 RECAP

Day One of the PBR Future Games is complete as the top prospects spent the day showcasing their talent in front of 200 scouts from collegiate programs and the professional ranks. With the measurables taken and the workout complete, it is worth reviewing some of the highlights from Team MA.

THE BATS

Harold Coll SS / Cathedral, MA / 2020

A twitchy shortstop with range and an above average arm, Coll has always impressed as a defender. Between batting practice, where Coll worked the gaps with consistency, and his exit velocity, where he was clocked at 90 MPH, it is easy to see what has scouts excited moving forward.

Max Zajec 1B / RHP / Wellesley, MA / 2020

A left-handed hitter, Zajec shined during batting practice during the showcase, working the right side of the field as he barreled pitch after pitch. Simple swing with a level bat path. His tee exit was measured up to 90 MPH as well. A first baseman, Zajec’s arm was also clocked at 87 MPH across the diamond.

Bennett Teceno 3B / SS / Belmont Hill, MA / 2020

A third baseman with a prototypical frame, Teceno’s work to add strength over the past year was on display during his batting practice round. He peppered the left and right center gaps. With loose hands and a level-up swing, he should continue making strides moving forward. The exit velocity was clocked at 87 MPH.

Luke Beckstein SS / 3B / Groton School, MA / 2020

A strong 5-foot-7, 165 pound prospect, Beckstein’s active hands stay inside the ball, and allowed him to work all fields during batting practice with hard contact. Line drive swing, controls the barrel well. The exit velocity was measured at 88 MPH, and the arm also looks to be a tool as it was clocked at 85 MPH across the diamond.

Alvaro Espinal OF / OF / Attleboro, MA / 2020

An athletic 5-foot-10 outfielder, Espinal worked center and left field during batting practice with well-connected line drives. Level-up bat path with a controlled leg kick and smooth load. Tee exit velocity clocked at 87 MPH. Also ran a 6.92 sixty, giving him the range to stick in center field moving forward.

The Defenders

Matthew Shaw SS / OF / Worcester Academy, MA / 2020

Athletic actions, quick feet, and soft hands make Shaw an above average defender. Working out as a SS, he showed well moving laterally and tracking the ball into the glove. The arm was clocked at 82 MPH while he ran a 6.70 sixty yard dash. Sprinkle in a 95 MPH exit velocity and defensive versatility, as he’s comfortable working in the outfield, and there are the makings of a valuable D1 commodity here.

Andrew Eppinger 3B / OF / Saint Johns, MA / 2020

Already tapping into the 6-foot-2, 180 pound frame to create some juice in the bat. Eppinger worked the left side of the outfield during batting practice, as the hands work high and the bat spends a long time in the zone. What may surpass this the offensive aptitude is the defensive display. Running a 6.94 sixty yard dash, showing that speed during outfield work, and then posting an 87 MPH positional velocity means he has a chance to impact both sides of the game.

James Sullivan Jr C / 2B / Choate Rosemary Hall, CT / 2020

A catcher with quick feet behind the plate, Sullivan reached 74 MPH out of the chute to go with a pop time between 2.06-2.19. Athletic defender overall, should show some advanced blocking skills and receiving in games. Additionally, the exit velocity reached 88 MPH.

Matthew Garbowski C / 2B / New Fairfield, CT / 2021

A freshman catcher with a live arm out of the chute, Garbowski’s arm strength is an exciting tool as it was measured at 79 MPH. Expect the 2.16-2.21 pop time band to continue hiking up moving forward.

Tyler Mudd OF / LHP / Deerfield Academy , MA / 2021

5-foot-8, 165 pounds, Mudd is a strong two-way prospect. With outfield throws and an exit velocity coming in at 82 MPH, he should continue progressing in the future. Good footwork as a defender, accuracy of the arm helps it play up further.

James Broderick SS / 2B / Lawrence Academy, MA / 2020

Smooth and fluid actions working in the middle of the diamond, the glove is one of Broderick’s top tools. Quick transfers and polish with the footwork. Also a left-handed bat, where his exit velocity measured in at 87 MPH.

Griffin Cofsky LHP / OF / Dexter Southfield , MA / 2021

A projectable 6-foot-2, 160 pound two-way prospect, Cofsky ran a 7.07 sixty and had the arm clocked at 82 MPH during the workout. Athletic strides to the ball, Cofsky put multiple throws on the bag at home plate.

Jack Beauchesne RHP / OF / Chelmsford, MA / 2020

An athletic outfield prospect, Beauchesne stands 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, giving him physical projection long-term. That being said, the current tools stood out, as he ran a 6.87 sixty and had his throws to home plate measured at 86 MPH, coming in with accuracy and carry.
