2018 Rankings Update: Scouting Reports 21-30

We have reworked the 2018 rankings, with a lot of movement within the rankings as new players have been added and some players have solidified themselves as a top prospect in the class. Today we looked at the scouting reports for players 21-30 in the class. As the week continues we will work through the top 50 2018 prospects as well of video of 25 players in the class.


Ty Johnson 2B / RHP / Clinton, AR / 2018

Johnson is a 5-foot-10 170-pund right-hander with an athletic frame and build. He shows a feel to pitch from a side arm, arm slot. He worked consistently 80-82 mph with late sink. He complimented his fastball with a Frisbee slider thrown 71-73 mph with late action. He uses a simple delivery with some effort, consistent rhythm and an athletic finish. Overall Johnson has advanced stuff and shows a feel to compete consistently in the strike zone with two pitches.

Pate Fullerton SS / RHP / Harding Academy, AR / 2018

 Fullerton is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame. Defensively, he plays through the ball with fluid footwork and advanced actions. He uses a quick exchange and a short quick arm action. Offensively, he attacks the baseball with a compact, line-drive swing. He starts with an athletic stance and uses a simple load and stride. He has shown the ability to hit line drives to all fields on a consistent basis. Raw tools wise he runs a 6.93 in the 60, throws the baseball 84 mph across the infield and produces exit velocity up to 88 mph. Overall Fullerton is an advanced player with a high baseball IQ.

Jakobi Jackson OF / LHP / Watson Chapel, AR / 2018

Jackson is a 6-foot 190-pound athlete with a large frame and an athletic build. He is an advanced offensive player with ability to hit for power to both fields. He starts from an athletic stance with a fluid load, he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed. He has slight uphill bat path. He does a sound job maintaining rhythm and balance throughout his swing. Defensively he shows good instincts on balls in the air. He plays through the baseball with a fluid exchange and a strong arm with carry. He runs a 7.09 in the 60, shows arm strength throwing 90 mph from the outfield and produces exit velocity up to 93 mph. Overall Jackson is has advanced power potential and is solid at all aspects of the game. 

Jack Stroth C / 3B / Conway High School, AR / 2018

Stroths is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound backstop with an athletic frame. He is a solid defender with pop times consistently in the 2.01-2.11 range. He blocks and receives with solid effort and technique. Offensively, he starts with an athletic stance with a slight load and stride. He attacks the baseball with a quick bat and remains balanced through extension.

Bennett Shoptaw RHP / SS / Little Rock Christian Academy, AR / 2018

Shoptaw is a 6-foot-1 175-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and build. He uses a short quick arm action from a ¾ arm slot. He repeats his mechanics consistently without a distinct balance point. He finishes tall to the plate. His fastball works 82-85 mph with slight run. He uses a 70-73 mph 11/5 curveball with late break as his secondary pitch. Overall Shoptaw is a solid two pitch right-hander with a feel to pitch. 

Nicholas Fakouri C / Sylvan Hills, AR / 2018

Farkouri is a 6-foot 190-pound catcher with a wide frame and a physical build. He produces exit velocities as high as 90 mph. He has an athletic stance with a hand load, he attacks the baseball with a fast bat speed, and raw strength. The swing has some stiffness and rotation. Defensively he is solid behind the plate he receives well maintaining proper glove angles. He shows proper technique and adequate effort while catching. He throws pop times consistently below 2.0. Overall Farkouri is a physical player with raw tools. 

Bryce Dodd SS / RHP / Clinton, AR / 2018

Dodd is a 5-foot-10 145-pound infielder with an athletic frame and slight build. He ran a 6.37 in the 60 at the Top Prospects Games. He also showed advanced arm strength throwing the baseball 85 mph from the outfield. On the infield he showed fluid actions, playing through the baseball, he used an easy exchange and an accurate arm. Offensively he showed a line drive swing with the ability to make consistent loud contact. As he matures and adds strength look for him to be a high-end prospect with his elite athleticism.

Braydon Todd RHP / OF / Arkadelphia, AR / 2018

Todd is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and physical build. He works from a H ¾ arm slot with a quick short arm action. He competes in the strike zone with a fastball which works 85-88 mph with late life through the strike zone. He also throws a curveball that works 71-73 mph with 11/5 action and gradual break. Overall Todd has advanced arm strength and athleticism, which makes him very projectable.

Gionti Turner SS / 2B / Watson Chapel, AR / 2018

Turner is a 6-foot-160-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and a thin build. He shows advanced defensive actions at short stop as he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork, he uses a quick exchange and a short arm action with accuracy. Offensively he starts from a tall stance, he uses a minimum load stride combination. He attacks the baseball with fast bat speed, with a line drive swing. He produces exit velocities up to 88 mph. Overall Turner is an advanced defender with a simple swing. He plays the game with high energy. 

Chris Willard SS / RHP / Nashville High School, AR / 2018

Willard is a 6-foot-2 165-pound middle infielder with a large frame and an athletic build. He showed to be a versatile player competing in game, on the infield, in the outfield and on the mound. He projects as an infielder moving forward. He has solid lateral movement with fluid footwork. He uses a normal exchange and an accurate arm, with a short arm action. He threw the baseball 77 mph across the infield. Offensively he showed bat speed and a feel for the barrel as he collected multiple hits in game. He also produced exit velocity up to 90 mph. Overall a versatile player with a projectable frame and slight build.
