C.J. Abrams SS / Blessed Trinity Catholic, GA / 2019

San Diego Padres, Round 1: Pick 6

Season Stats: .410/.459/.679 with 1.138 OPS; 17 2B, 5 3B, 3 HR, 33 SB, 6 K

Abrams' amassed some monster statistics during his senior season with the Titans despite playing one of the most difficult schedules in the state of Georgia – if not, the country. Blessed Trinity made the trip to North Carolina for the NHSI and west to Hoover, Ala., for the invitational tournament there, and also scheduled some robust in-state competition. He managed to shine bright anyway, and all his hard work culminated in becoming the sixth-overall selection in June's MLB Draft. He's since signed his first professional contract with the San Diego Padres and is readying himself at the team's Spring Training facility in Arizona before he makes his pro debut in the near future.

C.J. Abrams (4/10/19)

The 2019 Georgia high school baseball season has been in the books since the end of May and it's finally time to reveal to you our end-of-the-year awards, beginning with the PBR Georgia Player of the Year. As you can imagine, it's a difficult chore to sift through all of the state's premier talent in order to select Georgia's first-ever PBR Player of the Year, but we came to decision after much deliberation.

C.J. Abrams came into the regular season as the state's top position player prospect in the 2019 class and finished the spring as the top overall prospect, and one of the country's best. He was close to a household name in the state of Georgia, but he's also on his way to becoming one in Southern California, too, after he heard his named called in this month's MLB Draft, sixth overall, by the San Diego Padres.

With that, the PBR Georgia team is proud to announce that we've selected Abrams as our inaugural Player of the Year for the 2019 season.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound, left-handed-hitting shortstop had a huge spring on and off the diamond. Up to this point, Abrams has done it all on the baseball field. He was a member of the 18U USA National Team and entered the spring season as ranked No. 3 on PBR's national high school board. He lived up to all that hype, too, and it led all the way to his first professional contract.

Abrams' electric offense propelled him to this award. He slashed .410/.459/.679 with an OPS of 1.138 –while adding 17 doubles, five triples, and three home runs. Abrams' best tool might just be his foot speed, which he expertly used on the basepaths this past spring, where he stole 33 bases and regularly turned singles into doubles. He also struck out just six times this season, despite facing some of the stiffest pitching competition in the country, frankly.

The PBR Georgia staff is excited to follow Abrams' journey through pro ball and beyond, and we're excited to award him the first-ever POTY title.
