2019 OHSAA Tournament: Division II Regional Semifinal - No. 7 Tallmadge vs No. 8 Benedictine

Hudson, Ohio- A beautiful day for baseball at The Ballpark at Hudson featured a D2 regional semifinal matchup between #7 Tallmadge Blue Devils (17-7) and #9 Benedictine Bengals (22-7). 2019 RHP Mercyhurst Northeast commit John Bufford Jr was the winning pitcher for the Bengals, throwing a complete game while only allowing one run in the first inning. 2019 LHP Toledo commit Sam Seeker took the loss for Tallmadge allowing 5 runs in 4 innings.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning but it was the 4 run third inning that propelled the Bengals to the regional finals. The bases were loaded up for three straight RBI singles from Sinclair commit Daniel Keener, Bufford and Nick Demchuck. A throwing error on the Demchuck added another run for the Bengals and that was all they would need. Bufford was dominant after the first inning and seemed to get stronger as the game went on.

Keener led the way for the Bengals with 2 hits. 2019 RHP Todd Bangston was solid in relief for the Blue Devils, not allowing any runs after the 4 run 3rd. Hits were scarce for Tallmadge but Seeker was a key part of the lineup, including a double in the 5th. The Bengals rode their big 3rd inning to victory and a spot in the regional finals with this 5-1 win.
