2023 Arkansas Rankings Update

Brian Walker and Scott Hood

As the Spring continues to roll and hosting multiple events over the past couple of months PBR Arkansas has updated its rankings for the 2023 graduates.   We take a look at the top three ranked players, two players that have seen their rankings rise since the last update, we take a look at some of the top remaining ranked uncommitted prospects across the state, as well as the remaining top ten ranked players.  Continue to follow along our social media pages throughout the spring as we are bringing you the highest level of High School baseball coverage in the State.

You can check out the full 2023 rankings here.

Tripp Landers C / 3B / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

Holding onto the #1 spot Landers has continued to improve with the physical frame that continues to build into a very solid catch and throw guy. Landers is a Line drive machine that is growing into his power and has run some balls out of the yard. Middle of the field approach shows well for Tripp as he has the ability to go gap to gap with increasing power.

Kyler Spencer 3B / RHP / Conway, AR / 2023

Spencer checks in at number two overall in the State as well as number 255 nationally as one of the more physical right-handed bats in the country.  Spencer swings with strong leverage and shows some serious potential for next level power.  The Razorback commit has two-way potential showing high level skills on both sides of the ball.

Charlie Carter C / 1B / Little Rock Christian, AR / 2023

The Oklahoma State commit has the type of power bat and strong catch and throw skills coaches at the next level are always looking for.  Carter has clean and quick exchanges out of the glove and throws having very good carry to the bag.  He will also show some pull-side pop with good routes to the ball from the right side.

TOP RISERS

Drew Grumbles RHP / OF / Episcopal Collegiate, AR / 2023

Grumbles sees a rise in the rankings after a strong performance at the Arkansas Last Chance Preseason ID.  Grumbles worked the fastball at 84-87 and with his clean arm action and good hand speed it is easy to see the projection in the right-hander.  This type of hand speed from the mound is a tough tool to teach and expect more to come from Grumbles as he continues to gain strength and experience.

Lucas Jackson C / Southside, AR / 2023

Jackson sees a jump in the rankings after a strong showing with the bat at the Northwest Arkansas Preseason ID.  Jackson's calling card is his power potential with the bat from the left side of the plate that saw exit velocities work up to 97 mph and great bat speed and hand speed metrics from Blast Motion.  At 6-foot-2 and 190-pounds, Jackson checks a lot of the boxes as a physical left-handed hitting catcher.

TOP UNCOMMITTED

Tyler Ridley RHP / OF / Har-Ber, AR / 2023

Easy arm action that pumps strikes. Has pitched on the national stage his entire high school career and pounds the zone with a mid to occasional upper 80's fastball and command off quality secondary pitches. Lean frame that added strength will only produce higher velocity and an already present ability to pound the strike zone.

Nate Gross LHP / OF / Little Rock Christian, AR / 2023

Gross continues to make strides on the mound after a strong showing at last summer's Future games that saw the left-hander reach up to 87 mph.  He has a very fluid arm action and delivery with good athleticism and still features more projection in the body at a lean 6-foot 160-pound frame.  With added strength coming it will be easy to see him see a tick up in velocity and won't remain uncommitted much longer.

Matthew Guffey SS / RHP / Brookland, AR / 2023

Guffey never disappoints when we see him. A Future Game participant that continues to show repeatable swing and smooth infield actions. Consistent hard contact in the Future Games leading to multiple hits in the event. Guffey shows the ability to be a utility infielder that can handle the bat and produces a simple line drive stroke scattering line drives across the field.
