2023 PBR FL Preseason Classic Preview

The 2023 PBR FL Preseason Classic kicks off February 13-18 at Lawnwood Sports Complex in Ft. Pierce, FL. The event will feature 11 of the top high school teams from around the state of Florida with several top 2023 MLB Draft prospects.

Each year the FL Preseason Classic has featured an abundance of top prospects from around the state with hundreds of scouts in attendance to watch. The last three years of the Preseason Classic has seen 5 First Round Draft picks pass through (Zac Veen, Andrew Painter, Jay Allen, Elijah Green, and Brandon Barriera).

Today, I will preview this year’s event with every team in attendance, their 2-game schedule, as well as what 2023 Draft prospects, college prospects, and notable underclassmen to look out for.

Friday, February 17th - 4:00 PM vs Foundation Academy

2023 Draft Prospects

OF Andrew Duncan (FSU) - Duncan is one of the premier athletes in the 2023 class. At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Duncan flies up the base paths and in the outfield as a true 6.2 runner. The athleticism plays in the box with bat speed and true feel to hit. With a plus arm from the OF as well, Duncan is a toolsy Draft follow in this year’s class.

2023 Draft Prospects

SS Adrian Santana (Miami) - Santana is one of the top shortstops in the country and shows elite tools at different aspects of the game. Plus runner with a 6-foot, 160 pound frame. Above average defender at short with easy range to all sides of his body. Switch hitter offensively. Simple hitter who attacks the gaps with line drives and lets his speed do the work.

LHP Frank Menendez (Florida) - Menedez is a physical 6-foot-2, 205 pound southpaw who runs the fastball up to 94 mph. Sits mostly 90-92. Quick, clean arm action. Shows two breaking balls, slider flashes sharp.

2023 C Justin Ruiz (High Point) - Above average defender behind the plate

3B Daniel Cuvet (Miami) - At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds Cuvet looks the part and has some of the best raw power in the class. Physical with strength in the box and true bat speed. Cuvet is a dangerous hitter who looks to do damage.

2023 LHP Alex Valentin (Miami) - 6-foot, 220 southpaw up to 93

2023 OF Zaid Diaz (Chipola) - Physical LHH with bat speed and easy juice

SS/3B Braden Holcomb (Vanderbilt) - Physical 6-foot-4, 225 pound infielder has some of the best bat speed and power in the class. His ability to launch on contact and drive the ball with 100+ EVs make him one of the biggest power threats in the class.

RHP Mikhai Grant (Mississippi State) - 6-foot-4, 215 pound right hander who has been up to 95 with the fastball. Athletic on the mound with a quick arm. Life to the fastball with developing SL that flashes sharp.

LHP Cam Johnson (LSU) - 6-foot-5, 235 pound southpaw with electric stuff. ¾ arm slot. Heavy FB in the mid to upper 90s from the left side. Sweeping SL and swing and miss CH. Potential Day 1 pick.

C Zion Rose (Louisville) - Plus athleticism for the catching position. Above average runner. Physical with power potential at the plate. Strong defender behind the plate.

2023 RHP Jaewoo Cho (Arkansas) - Low 90s FB with above average breaking ball

2023 Draft Prospects

3B Aidan Miller (Arkansas) - Miller has been at the top of the 2023 class since he was a freshman. Physical 6-foot-2, 205 pound frame and looks the part. Miller looks to do damage with every swing. Elite bad speed with power potential to all fields. Consistently finds barrels and drives the ball with intent. Miller is one of the top Draft prospects in 2023 and is projected to go on Day 1.

RHP Brandon Olivera (Miami) - Olivera is an athletic right-hander with a heavy power fastball. Sits around 92-93 with the FB and has run it up to 95 in the past. Arm action is clean and loose. Explodes down the mound. FB jumps out the hand.

SS Ariel Antigua (Tennessee) - Antigua has one of the better hit tools in the ‘23 class. Always on the barrel working both gaps. Shows ability to launch on contact with potential to hit for power at the next level. Plays well above his 5-foot-8 frame.
