3A Lemont Regional: Illiana Christian Breezes Past Morgan Park

LEMONT, IL - Lemont played host to a 3A Regional Semi-final matchup on Thursday afternoon between Illiana Christian and Morgan Park. The Vikings of Illiana Christian made quick work of the Morgan Park Mustangs eventually defeating them 11-1 in five innings.

The Vikings wasted no time breaking the game open and pulling away from Morgan Park. The first seven hitters in the bottom of the first inning reached base, six of them coming via a base hit. One of the biggest hits in the inning was a two-run double to right-center field by sophomore Tavares VanKuikan. Damon Gladney, an Eastern Kentucky commit, delivered an RBI single in the frame as well. When all was said and done Illiana Christian led 7-1 heading to the second inning.

Illiana Christian tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the third to put the game away for good. Tony Lucito drove in two with a two-out double down the left-field line. Gladney chipped in with another RBI single as did George VanRyn.

Morgan Park scored their lone run of the game in the first inning. Senior Myles Norman led off the game with an infield single and came around to score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jamarion Loston.

Lucito, a senior left-hander, started on the mound and went all five innings for Illiana Christian. Lucito, a South Suburban CC commit, allowed one hit, one run, struck out 10 and walked four.

Gladney finished the day 2-for-2, with a walk, three RBI’s and two runs scored for the Vikings. Lead-off man Isaac Lyzenga also had a big day for the Vikings going 3-for-4 with a run scored.Left-fielder Colton DeJong reached base in all three at-bats and scored two runs as well.

With the win Illiana Christian will face Oak Forest on Saturday in a 3A Regional Championship contest.
