HINSDALE, IL - The Plainfield East Bengals and Benet Redwings met at Hinsdale Central Saturday morning to determine who would be crowned the 4A Hinsdale Central Regional Champion.

Benet jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top half of the first. Leadoff man Mike Wymer drew a walk off Plainfield East starting pitcher Luke Lamm (North Central College commit) to start the game. With Wymer advancing bases on consecutive groundouts, Collin Berry just needed a base hit to get the Redwings on the board. And he did just that. Consecutive singles by Jack Schneider and Brandon Gorz gave Benet bases loaded with two outs, but Lamm was able to strand the runners with a strikeout

Heading into the second inning, Plainfield East’s offense began to churn out singles. The first five batters recorded a base hit single. The Bengal offense amassed six single, eight baserunners and five runs in the inning, giving them a 5-1 lead.

The Redwings responded with two runs in the top half of the third to cut the deficit to 5-3. Plainfield East would come right back three more runs in the bottom half, with all three hits in the inning coming as singles.

Leading 8-3 after three innings, both pitching staffs settled in and started to limit the opposing offenses as zero runs were scored over the final four frames. After 5.2 innings pitched, Lamm handed the ball over to senior right-handed Billy Pierce (Truman State commit) to finish out the game. Pierce made quick work of the Redwings, securing the 8-3 victory.

Offensively, Benet was led by Schneider who went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Gorz also had a multi-hit day, picking up two singles in four plate appearances. For the Bengals, Nick Baldassano (Aurora commit) had a perfect 3-for-3 day, scoring once and knocking home two runs, Jacob Havis (Milikin commit) and Andrew Hoffmann (Oakland commit) also collected two hits. Lamm picked up the win after tossing 5.2 innings.
