OUTLOOK:

The Golden Bears are coming off a 3A Area 16 area championship in 2019 and are looking to replicate that success again in 2020 as they will compete with Lauderdale County and Clements in area play. Coach Cole Mitchell loves the togetherness and work ethic his team has shown in preparation for the season but knows the team will be mostly inexperienced at several key positions. Although the team will be made up of several inexperienced players, there is some talent in that group. The 2020 team will welcome back three positional starters from a year ago and two pitchers that saw time on the mound. ’21 RHP Ethan Corum has been a regular on the varsity since his freshman year and his role will only continue to grow for the Golden Bears. Corum has a live arm and is expected to be the workhorse of the staff this season and throw a ton of important innings (area play). ’20 OF Holden Newton will be returning for his senior year and will be entering his third season as a starter. He is a speedy centerfielder that can truly cover gap to gap as he gets great jumps off the bat. He will be a key bat in the lineup in 2020 as the Golden Bears will be looking for him to be a major run producer this season.
