Anderson Knocks Off Shelbyville

Shelbyville, IN – Anderson and Shelbyville squared off on Tuesday evening, with late runs from Anderson proving to be the difference in the game. Shelbyville jumped on the board first with Adam Eads (2014) doubling down the right field line. Dylan Alvis (2012) followed that with a single that moved Eads to third. With runners on first and third, a wild pitch brought Eads home for the first run of the game.

Anderson’s offense was quiet until the top of the fourth when Andrew Sink (2012) led off the inning with a double to the left centerfield gap. Brady Reed (2012) then drove the ball up the middle for a RBI single, tying the game at one. Shelbyville answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Daniel Kuhn (2014) led off the frame with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from JD Cox (2014). Freshman Matt Simmerman then ripped a ball into the right centerfield gap for a RBI double, giving Shelbyville the 2-1 lead.

Shelbyville’s lead didn’t last long.  Shannon Swain (2012) led off the top of the fifth with a walk and Curtis Wilson (2013) followed that up with a single, putting runners on first and second. With one out, after a strikeout, Swain attempted to steal third base. The ball beat Swain to the bag, but his hard slide jarred the ball loose. With runners now on first and third, Sink hit a fly ball to left that was deep enough to score Swain from third. With two outs and a runner on first Reed singled and Jake Fox (2013) followed that up with a RBI single of his own,  giving Anderson the 3-2 lead.

Sophomore pitcher Jerred Quartier was able to shut down Shelbyville’s offense for the rest of the game. Quartier ended up throwing a complete game allowing just six hits. Quartier sat 77-80 mph throughout the game, showing a good 12/6 curve.
