The PBR Arizona- Class of 2021 Player Rankings have been updated as of April 6th, 2020.  We were looking forward to seeing some more baseball this spring. We feel for all of the players out there that have worked so hard to be able to compete this spring. The current Top players from the 2021 class have been highlighted and identified.  This group includes players from all over the state of Arizona that play across the different classifications of high school baseball. Over the last 4 months PBR Arizona has used valued PBR Staff, Scouts, and past & current local coaches as resources to update and add to this list. In this update, there has been a pretty decent shuffle with some players starting to step up and make names for themselves. Some pitchers are also starting to show signs of breaking out and you will see some of them highlighted in this update. We plan to update and extend this list of players in the future once baseball in Arizona resumes. Let’s take a look at our newly updated class of 2021 State Player Rankings:

Look out for our recently posted Top Prospect Games for 2021 graduates that will be held at the end of June. This annual event only event is a huge identifier of prospects around the state of Arizona for PBR. 

Selvidge catching momentum in National Rankings

LHP, Brock Selvidge (Hamilton), LSU commit stands at an athletic 6-foot-3 200-pound frame, who has gotten stronger. Already rated as the top 2021 prospect in Arizona, rises to No. 22 in the 2021 National Rankings. Selvidge looks the part standing on the mound with his FB working 88-91mph from the left-handed side. Should gain some velocity over the course of the summer. He has shown feel for his breaking ball and developing change-up. The BB has swing and miss potential. Selvidge has also shown some ability and athleticism as a two-way prospect in HS that only helps his stock on the mound. Selvidge’s consistency combined with athleticism & quick arm should allow for more projection down the road. Selvidge should continue to be a player that you will hear alot about in the future. 

 

Schiefelbein climbs into top-10 with solid off-season 

Uncommitted RHP, Schiefelbein attended our Arizona Preseason All-State Games back at the end of January, sporting a lean, athletic frame with long limbs and projection. He ran a 6.89 60 and showed solid tools as a position player, but his future lies on the mound. He pitches with a controlled, repeatable delivery and quick arm from a higher slot. He gets downhill with a high-spin fastball that sat 83-87 and touched 90mph with riding life through the zone. He mixed in a short curveball in the upper 70s that shows more downer break and has shown glimpses of being a swing-and-miss pitch in the past. His solid 3-pitch mix and overall pitchability combined with his athleticism are partly why he rose up the rankings in this update. He should throw harder down the road. 

 

Ryan Schiefer newly added to list

RHP, Ryan Schiefer, GCU commit from Campo Verde comes newly added to the 2021 State Player Rankings. We had a chance to see him recently to begin the Spring season before the suspension. Standing at 6-foot-3, 170-pounds with athleticism and room to add strength. He started on the mound, commanding the strike-zone. Worked his FB 85-88, topping out at 89mph a handful of times with easy effort. Mixed in a slurry breaking ball at 72-74mph. His current athleticism and quick arm combined with projection make him a solid player for the top part of our list.

Nick Suspenzi’s pitch ability

RHP, Nick Suspenzi (Desert Mountain) who recently committed to San Diego is another RHP that made a slight jump up our list from his development this offseason and start to the spring season. Standing at 5-foot-11 175-pounds with some athleticism and room to develop in his frame. We saw him in two starts this spring for DM. Throws from a deceptive L3/4 arm slot with a quick & loose arm. Suspenzi's FB sat 84-87mph with little cut, our gun even read 89mph on a pitch as well. He also threw a developing SL with average shape at 74-75mph, getting around the baseball at times. Suspenzi also attended our Preseason event this past off-season and has an above average CH in his arsenal but didn't use it much to start the season. What really stands out about Suspenzi is his ability to pitch. He commands his pitches low in zone. We saw him strikeout 12 batters in 5 innings of work to start the season.
