Arkansas Insider: Unsigned Senior Infielders

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The early signing period, has been exciting with 45 players making their college commitments official. After the dust has settled, I would like to step back and look at the top players that are available in the 2017 class at each position. Today we will look at infielders.

Jake East, MIF, Bryant HS
East is a 5-foot-10 155-pound short-stop with an athletic frame and build. Defensively he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork and soft hands. He uses a quick exchange and an accurate arm to throw the ball 83 mph. His arm action is short and loose. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, he uses a slight leg kick as his load and timing mechanism. He uses a compact line drive swing that produces exit velocity up to 86 mph. He runs a 6.56 in the 60. Overall East is a premium defender that competes at a high level, with premium athleticism.

Kolby Reck, MIF, Conway HS
Reck is a 5-foot-9 170-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He impressed offensively during the All-State games. He starts from an athletic stance, he attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and slight uphill swing. He maintains balance through extension and does a sound job incorporating the lower half into his swing. He registered 89 mph during exit velocity testing. Defensively he plays through the ball with fluid footwork. He has a smooth exchange with a loose arm. He threw the ball up to 78 mph across the infield with accuracy. Athletically he is an above average runner. Overall Reck is a well-rounded player with feel for the barrel which separates him from many of the infielders in the 2017 class.

Justin Hines, MIF, Bentonville HS
Hines is a 5-foot-9 145-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and a slight build. He is a polished defender showing fluid footwork and a quick exchange. He throws the ball 83 mph across the infield with accuracy. Offensively he uses a short compact swing that produces exit velocities up to 86 mph. He runs a 7.12 in the 60. Overall Hines is a solid player that competes at a high level

Braelin Hence, MIF, Watson Chapel HS
Hence is a 5-foot-8 160-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He runs a 6.81 in the sixty. Defensively he plays through the baseball with fluid actions and soft hands. He throws the baseball from an H ¾ arm slot with accuracy. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, he uses a slight leg lift, and hand load. He attacks the baseball with a compact line drive swing. Overall Hence is a solid athlete with above average defensive skills and competes consistently offensively.

Seth Tucker, MIF, Bryant HS
Tucker is a 5-foot-10 155 versatile baseball player, with an athletic frame and build. On the infield he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork and solid actions. He throws on the infield accurately from an L ¾ arm slot. In the outfield he has shown above average instincts, playing balls in either gap from centerfield. Offensively he starts from a slightly open stand stance, he dives into the plate, using a leg lift for his load and timing mechanisms. He attacks the baseball with an uphill swing with some rotation to it. Overall Tucker is a premium defender and athlete. He competes at a high level and plays the game hard competing at whatever position he plays.
