Best Tools: Uncommitted 2016 Outfielders

In a series of articles, we will be breaking down the uncommitted seniors with the best tools in various categories. Let’s take a look at 2016 outfielders to see who has the best tools.

Best Hitting Prospect: Greg Latushko (Ramapo HS)

The 5-foot-11 outfielder is an exceptional athlete. The righty outfielder showed well in the 60-yard dash running a 6.84. He is aggressive on the basepaths; gets great jumps and is always looking to steal, go first-to-third, etc. He hits from a slightly open stance and utilizes a small leg kick and a high back elbow. He has some strength in his swing and some pop, particularly when he keeps with an up the middle approach. He occasionally gets long on the pitch to the outer half when trying to be too pull side. In the outfield, Latushko proved to be a premium defender with plus arm strength; 89 MPH. He is a legitimate centerfield prospect.

Best Power Prospect/Best Running Prospect: Tristan Ryan (Ewing HS)

Ryan is 6-foot, 185 pounds; is very athletic, physical, and strong. He has a strong lower half and is extremely fast-twitch and explosive. He had one of the best first steps I’ve seen in the 60-yard dash this summer as he put up a 6.69.  He was also a 4.26 down to first base. Offensively, Ryan has bat speed and produced a 90 mile-per-hour exit velocity. He crushed baseballs, both up the middle and to the pull side. He has fast hands and could really be a solid hitter at the next level. Defensively, he moves well and has good carry on his 83 mile-per-hour arm strength. He is a perfect OF for somebody who needs a highly projectable prospect.

Best Fielding Prospect: Kyle Malejko (Pope John XXIII)

Malejko is a 5-foot-10 outfielder with smooth athletic actions in the outfield. His best posted 60-yard dash time registered 7.17, however he plays all aspects of the game much quicker. He has an excellent first step and tracks balls exceptionally well, especially when in center field. He showed some athleticism on his throws and had good back spin and carry. Offensively, he hits from the right-side. He uses an open stance and has a repeatable stride and a smooth load with some arm bar. He has a quick swing with an explosive lower half. He stays in the hitting zone with the barrel and consistently puts a good swing on the ball. He is a definite prospect.

Best Arm Strength: Chad Leonard (Toms River HS East)

Leonard has an athletic 5-foot-11, 170 pound build. The outfield prospect was the most explosive athlete at the event. He ran a 6.81 in the 60-yard dash and he showcased the strongest arm thus far in PBR New Jersey history at 94 miles-per-hour from the outfield. He is a premium defender who can track down almost everything in centerfield. He hits from a tall stance with some rhythm in his hands. He has a smooth stroke up until contact where he goes immediately into a high, abbreviated finish. This makes him rush in-and-out of the hitting zone. When he gets barrel on the baseball, the ball jumps. Being such a good athlete, the consistency should improve as he matures in the box.
