A seven-run fifth inning for the St. John's Cadets proved to be too much as they took down the Bishop O'Connell Knight by a score of 11-1 on Thursday afternoon in WCAC action.

The matchup saw two of the top teams so far this season square off against each other in the WCAC, with St. John's currently the top team of both divisions and the PBR Virginia/DC No. 2 ranked team in the Power25. The game was square through the first two innings as both starters, 2020 LHP Jake Berry (Virginia) for the Knights and 2022 RHP James Triantos (North Crolina) for  St. John's, kept both teams off the scoreboard to start the game off. St. John's would be the first to get on the board in the top of the third when Triantos would blast a triple to deep left center off the fence and drive in two runs. A Casey Gibbs RBI single in the fourth would extend the lead to 3-0. Triantos had the Knight offense number and had kept them scoreless through four himself.

St. John's would then explode for seven runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by another Traintos triple, and a two-RBI double from Gibbs yet again. The Cadets were also able to take advantage of some misplays in the field during the big inning. Bishop O'Connell was able to score one run in the bottom of the fifth, and the Cadets would add another single run in the top of the seventh to give us our 11-1 final.

Triantos was 3-for-4 with two triples and four RBI on the day. He also threw four shutout innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven.

Gibbs was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a double for the Cadets.

Ian Remalia was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the game as well.

Eddie Eisert, Riley O'Donovan, and James Ebron had the three hits for Bishop O'Connell.
