Welcome to Blast Breakdown! In this series we will spotlight one player each week who stood out during this 2020 season and take a deeper dive into their numbers and take a look at some that really stand out.

Before we get started, we'll go over and define some of the terminology being used in the piece:

Bat Speed- The total speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact, measured in mph. The sweet spot is measured 6 inches from the tip of the bat.

Rotational Acceleration- A measure of how quickly the hitter gets the bat from launch position into the swing plane. This is measured in G-Force (g).

Exit Velocity- The measures the speed of the ball off the bat, measured in miles per hour (mph).

Scouting Report

There is a lot to like about the lefty sluggers swing. The first thing that jumps out at you is the powerful frame that translates into the swing while staying controlled and balanced. The power is evident in the bat speed that averaged 75 mph and peaked at an impressive 86.8 mph that is well above average (Pro level ranges from 66 - 78mph ) and translated to a 100 mph peak exit velo in live arm BP.

Next thing that stands out is the rotational acceleration. This is where we find out how efficiently he can use his power at the next level by measuring how fast he can accelerate from launch position into his bat speed. Logan registered a advanced average rotational acceleration of 19.7g's and a peak of 23.7g's (MLB avg. 16.8g's) which will allow him to track the ball longer and make later decisions making him less susceptible to the high spin fastball and off speed pitches.

Now the third thing we are going to look at is On-Plane Efficiency which shows if the hitter is equipped to have a high percentage of making contact. On-Plane Efficiency shows the percentage of your swing that stays on-plane of the incoming pitch. According to the extensive Blast data if you have an average of 70% or higher you have a higher percentage of making contact consistently. Logan averaged 76% in a 17 swing sample size.

With these 3 metrics we can see that Logan is equipped to consistently make contact, for power, without sacrificing swing and misses.
