Campus Series Top Five: Fastball Velocity

Dan Cevette
President, New York

Over 200 players attended our 2019 Campus Series events with several players standing out each week. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be rolling out several different types of articles on the players from those Campus Series events. Today we look at the top five FB velocities we saw, who threw them, and Dan Cevette gives his quick thoughts on where that players velocity is headed.

Dalton Maxon RHP / OF / Tamarac , NY / 2020

Attended: St. Rose (July 9)
Max FB: 87

Cevette's Velo Projection: At 6-foot-3, 200-pounds with a thick strong lower half, Maxon has'nt seen his peak velocity just yet. Combine that with a some quick handspeed on the front-side of his delivery, and next spring the Albany area righty should be 87-89.

Aaron Hair RHP / Frewsburg Central , NY / 2020

Attended: St. Bonaventure (July 30)
Max FB: 86

Cevette's Velo Projection: Another thick, durable righty we just recently saw. No restrictions in the arm-swing, more of an arm-strength velo type pitcher, should see 86-88 his senior year.

Eliakim Stowe RHP / 1B / Millbrook Prep, NY / 2022

Attended: St. Rose (July 9)
Max FB: 86

Cevette's Velo Projection: The rising sophomore already stands 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and his ceiling is lofty. Already sitting 84-86, before Stowe graduates from Milbrook Prep, that athletic arm-action should join the 90 mph club.

Clifton Genge RHP / RHP / Rush-Henrietta, NY / 2020

Attended: St. Bonaventure (July 30)
Max FB: 85

Cevette's Velo Projection: Really enjoyed watching Genge throw at St. Bonaventure. The body is strong, the arm shows no restrictions, the action on his FB is really above average, and the velo is already mid 80's. The rising senior should be 84- 87, maybe even better come spring next year.

Mario Pesca RHP / Cardinal Spellman , NY / 2022

Attended: St. Johns (July 30)
Max FB: 84

Cevette's Velo Projection: There's a lot to like from the lean, 6-foot-5, wiry rising sophomore from Cardinal Spellman. Already up to 84 and we don't see that number dropping. The long arm-action has power-arm written all over it. By senior year, 88-90 is a conservative number.

Bryce Hediger RHP / 1B / Pioneer , NY / 2021

Attended: St. Bonaventure (July 30)
Max FB: 84

Cevette's Velo Projection: Strong powerful frame, 6-foot-0, 180-pounds and there's more strength and weight to come. Sat 83-84 July 30 and the arm showed signs of quickness with minimal effort. High ceiling guy with no doubts about 86-88 by senior year.

Greg Farone LHP / 1B / Schenectady , NY / 2020

Attended: St. Rose (July 9)
Max FB: 84

Cevette's Velo Projection: It's a frame to dream on, 6-foot-4, 180-pounds, still looks really lanky, easy 20-30 pounds to his frame expected. The arm uses a full, high circle, low effort guy, by senior year he 85 + would't surprise me, with more hand-speed out in front and strength training this off-season, it's a no-doubter.
