THE BRACKET

2018 NYSPHSAA Baseball Championships Class AA

The Coverage

PBR-NY Scouting Director Jared Carrier (@CoachJed) will be at the Championship Saturday at Binghamton University; 1pm start.

THE BREAKDOWN

Massapequa (Section 8)
Record: 20-6
Road to Binghamton: Defeated West Islip (Section 11) 7-1.
Key Contributors: Christian DeNave, Johnny Castagnozzi, Travis Honeyman, Nick Schwartz
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Horseheads; 2pm @ Union-Endicott HS
Prediction: Loaded squad with a mix of veteran players and younger talent. DeNave will most likely get the ball in the opening round; no easy outs 1 through 9 vs. Horseheads.

Horseheads (Section 4)
Record:
19-3
Road to Binghamton:
 Defeated Kingston (Section 9) 7-2.
Key Contributors: Michael Limoncelli
, Trey Princiotto, Tony Burlingame, Frank Wayman, Brayden O'Connell, Andrew Thompson
Semifinal Matchup:
vs. Massapequa; 2pm @ Union Endicott
Prediction:
If Limoncelli is pounding the zone it could be a long day for Massapequa. Horseheads very athletic and a ton of LHH that can put the ball in play.

Baldwinsville (Section 3)
Record:
19-3
Road to Binghamton:
 Defeated Columbia (Section 2) 1-0.
Key Contributors: Jason Savacool, Jacob Marshall, Zach Monica, Patrick May, Frank Levanti
Semifinal Matchup: vs.
Prediction:
Savacool (Maryland Commit) is arguably one of the best pitchers, if not the best pitcher in the state (in all grad classes). Victor is loaded with scrappers, if pitch count gets up, B'Ville still has quality arms available. The Bees depth on the mound would allow them to contend in the final.

Victor (Section 5)
Record: 19-1
Road to Binghamton: Defeated Lancaster (Section 6) 3-1.
Key Contributors: Santino RossoRyan Lukas, Chris Varone, Nathan Hampson
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Baldwinsville; 5pm @ Union-Endicott.
Prediction: Huge win over a good Lancaster last week solidified what everyone was thinking...that this squad is the real deal. Maybe not the big time talent like other teams in the bracket, but perhaps the best all-around team. If they execute, they are in it. Tough test vs. Savacool. Varone has shown some serious pop in the post season; Ross one of top middle infielders in the state.

Our Thoughts

"No shortage of talent in any of these games. These will be absolute dogfights with any of the 4 potentially walking away with the title. Horseheads will be able to outlast Massapequa, a squad that will be back to Binghamton in the near future. Savacool propels B'Ville to the final. The Bees are slightly deeper on the mound and it may be that one extra move they can make that's the difference."
