Friday morning saw the first of two games in the Class 6 State semifinals, which are being hosted by John Champe High School in Loudoun County. In the first game, Region B runner-up Freedom (South Riding) was taking on Region C Champ Lake Braddock. Freedom started junior righty Mason Butash (Penn State) and Braddock went with senior righty JB Manarchuck (Mt. St. Mary's)

The Bruins jumped out to a big lead with a monster bottom of the first, batting around and taking a 6-0 lead. Ryan Morrison (CNU) came into the game for Freedom and stopped the bleeding and was able to keep the Bruin bats in check for the next few innings. The Eagles got single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to cut into the deficit, but Manarchuck was able to avoid any crooked numbers.

Once Manarchuck hit his pitch limit, Freedom's offense came alive. Butash welcomed the first arm out of the bullpen with a booming double to deep center in the top of the seventh and the Eagles would rally for five runs in the seventh and take an 8-6 lead, which Ryan Marohn (NC State) would lock down as the final.

Butash finished 4-4 with 3 2Bs and Nathan Chen (Randolph-Macon) and Cal Henderson (Louisburg CC) each had multi-hit games. Morrison and Marohn combined for seven scoreless innings. Daniel Lipovski was 2-4 for Braddock
