Our Commitment Q & A series marches on with Parker Schmidt (2019), a catcher from Desert Oasis High School. Schmidt's, patience is commendable, waiting until the fall of his senior year to make his college selection.  Patience was truly a virtue as he.was able to realize a life long dream by choosing the University of Oregon.

PBR: Why did you choose Oregon?
Schmidt:  I chose the University of Oregon because it has been my dream school since I was a little kid and I was born in Oregon.

PBR: What coach on staff was your primary recruiter and how it that relationship?
Schmidt: The pitching coach, Jason Dietrich, was my primary recruiter. Our relationship grew throughout the process and we were in contact with each other on a very regular basis.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Schmidt: I was talking to a few other D1 schools and JUCOs but Oregon was the goal from the beginning.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Schmidt
: The coaching staff first saw me at the Area Code tryout at UNLV and he called me soon after the tryout. My relationship with them developed in a positive way right away when Coach Dietrich’s second call with me. He didn't only tell me positives in my game but the negatives as well, so I could work to get better.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
Schmidt
: My parents, for sure, for taking me to every practice or lesson over the years and all the support they give me to shoot high and work to get there.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer/fall and what has that experience been like?
Schmidt
: I play for the Las Vegas Aces for the summer and fall. It has been a great experience and a key factor in the experience and skills that I have as a player today. We have played all over the country against the best teams in the country, which is a great way to get better.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have for you during your freshman year?
Schmidt
: In an article that Dietrich wrote about me in the Oregon Baseball Signees release that they are expecting me to come in and compete for the starting catching job next year.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
Schmidt
: The Legion World Series was my most memorable baseball moment to date because of the run we had over summer and the memories we made as a team on and off the field.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter/pitcher you have faced in Nevada?

Schmidt: The toughest pitcher I have faced in Nevada is Josh Sharman in our intra-squads, for sure.
