The Palo Verde Panthers are the defending state champions and will return a number of players from their championship team.  Shortstop and right-handed pitcher, Peyton Cole will be an integral part in the team's hopes to repeat their feat from a year ago.  PBR Nevada recently caught up with its #3 ranked player about his college selection.

PBR: Why did you choose BYU?
Cole: Tradition and coaches. I believe that BYU because of the current coaching staff will be a consistent top 30 program. My brother also attended and played at BYU. They understood how to get him ready to play after he served a two-year church mission. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and always wanted to play for BYU since I was younger.

PBR: What coach on staff was your primary recruiter and how it that relationship?
Cole: Coach Haring and coach Littlewood. Great guys! Made me feel special from day one of meeting them. As I visited the campus I would meet more of the coaches and have grown a great relationship with each of them.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Cole: Other schools liked me but BYU was always the school I wanted to play for.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Cole: they knew my brother and heard word of mouth about me. The first time I think they really watched me in person was in a summer game in Salt Lake City when I pitched against the UTAH Marshals my freshman year and did very well.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
Cole: My brothers Cameron and Taylor. My dad and coaches Mike Martin, Chris Sheff and Evan Gruesel from club ball. Joe Haelad and the coaching staff at Palo Verde HS.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer/fall and what has that experience been like?
Cole: LVR (Las Vegas Recruits ) Southern Nevada Baseball and Palo Verde HS. Ohio Warhawks. My club ball teams have had great coaching that know the game and know how to teach it.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have for you during your freshman year?
Cole: I am going to serve a two year mission for my church before I attend my first year of college. I plan on returning and contributing to the team my freshman year.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
Cole: Winning State last year for Palo Verde HS IN 2018. Winning our week at Cooperstown Dreams park for LVBA when I was 12.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter/pitcher you have faced in Nevada?
Cole: Hitter: Austin Kryszczuk ( Centennial HS ) Pitcher: Campbell Holt ( Desert Oasis )
