Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

As Prep Baseball Report works to offer a wide coverage of baseball in Minnesota, to day the focus narrows to Aaron Wukmir, a class of 2018 Minnesota-Duluth commit. Wukmir (5'10, 155lbs) pitches for the Minnetonka High School and Legion baseball teams. A bit undersized, Aaron utilizes his load and drive in his delivery to be efficient to the plate. Continuing to develop a release point further out front should see and increase in an already mid 80's fastball. He shows above average arm speed that is maintained though breaking pitches, which all have good pace to them. Coming from a program like Minnetonka will make fighting for innings at the next level second nature to Wukmir. He is joining a Duluth team that has established themselves as a consistent offensive power in the NSIC and he will look to help the Bulldogs make continued strides on the mound. We wish nothing but the best for Aaron in his senior season and in Duluth!

PBR: Why did you choose Minnesota-Duluth?
I chose Duluth because I really enjoyed the area. I also really liked the campus and thought that it was a great environment for me to be in and flourish as a student and athlete.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
I was considering multiple Division 2 and Division 3 schools around the Midwest.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him (Phone calls, on-campus visits, etc.)?
Coach Rients first saw me pitch at a showcase. He then watched me throw at one of our legion tournaments and contacted me the next day. Later in the summer, I went to a skills camp in Duluth and tournes the campus. From then on, we had multiple phone conversations and I decided to come up again for an official visit in October and I was sold on the campus.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
The main deciding factor for me was the coaching staff. I really felt like I had a strong connection with all the coaches, and that I can develop as a pitcher under Coach Rients.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
I would say my parents have helped me the most. They gave constant support to me throughout the whole recruiting process and I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for them.

PBR: What plans do you have in store for you in your freshman season at your new school?
My plan for the start of the school year is to have an impact on the team and to compete for a starting spot in the lineup. I also want to get stronger and be able to be an option for any situation.

PBR: What advice would you give to others that are currently or will soon be going through the recruiting process?
I’d say to narrow down your school choices by what you’re passionate about, while also being realistic about your baseball options. Put education first, and then see what that school has to offer for a baseball program.

PBR: Are you competing in any fall or winter sports?
I plan on playing junior gold hockey in the winter. For baseball, I am training at Starters Sports and working with the pitching coach and weight trainers there.

PBR: In a few sentences, tell us about your high school team in terms of goals for the season and strengths your team possesses that will be pivotal in helping to get there (pitching, defense, offense, chemistry, etc.).
Our high school team has high expectations for the spring of 2018. We will have a great pitching staff accompanied by great bats and defense. Our motto for our team is “It’s about US.” In order to get far into the spring, we will have to work together as a team, which is a strength of the Minnetonka Baseball Program.
