Conner King Hits Walk Off Single to Lift New Castle to Victory

Conner King’s Walk Off Single Lifts New Castle to Victory

New Castle—Trey Ball has been on many college coaches and professional baseball scouts radars for the last few years. His 89-93 mph fastball has made the 6-5 lefty the No. 1 ranked prospect in the Mid-West for the class of 2013.

Ball took the mound last night for New Castle High school as they hosted Mt. Vernon (Fortville) and starting pitcher Jake Mills (Vincennes University). Mills pitched just two innings, striking out six New Castle batters and giving up one hit, while sitting at 82-85 mph, touching 86.  Ball threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and three walks, striking out six and sitting at 88-92 mph, even touching 90-91 mph in the seventh.

Ball got things going for New Castle’s offense in the first, turning on an 85 mph for a leadoff homerun to right field. New Castle added another run in the fourth taking a 2-1.  With the score still at 2-1 in favor of New Castle in the seventh, Mt. Vernon’s Seth Gohring led off the inning with a double to right center.  Gohring moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out to short off the bat of Tyler Langdon. The Langdon RBI knotted the score at two apiece setting up the dramatic bottom of the seventh.

New Castle’s Michael Bear drew a pinch hit walk bringing Trey Ball to the plate with nobody out. After two monster swings, Ball eventually walked on a 3-2 fastball off the plate. Left handed hitting shortstop Conner King capitalized on a fastball on the inner half of the plate, ripping the pitch to centerfield for a walk off RBI single giving New Caste a 3-2 victory.
