Game 1

MGF Marshalls (10) vs Crew Athletics (2)

The Mashalls continued their assault on the inaugural PBR Nevada Limited Series Tournament with a win over Crew Athletics of Washington.  Starter, ’19 TJ Clarkson had a strong outing, striking out nine. Clarkson worked comfortably with a fastball ranging mostly 83-84 and surrendered just one free pass before giving way to '19 Ryan Sanders.  The Marshall pounded out ten hits, '19 McKay Barney and '19 Nathan Manning each had multiple hits. Crew Athletics ’21 Kyle Parkman (LF) had a pair of hits and two RBI.

’21 Kyle Parkman (L/L), OF (Crew Athletics)

Stocky, 5-foot-9, 185, Parkman has a sturdy frame with present strength. He played balls well and showed good arm strength in an attempt to throw a runner out at home. At the plate, he singled twice up the middle with a short, quick swing, plating the only two Crew Athletic runs. Parkman looks to employ quick hips and hands which is noticeably detected during takes. He has limited projection but has all the makings of a future college performer.

Game 2

MGF Marshalls (10) vs Placentia Mustangs (0)

In a six-inning affair due to a tournament run rule, the Marshalls improved to 4-0 in the Limited Series event. Led by leadoff hitter ’19 Nick Vogt (UCSB) who scored four times. ’19 JJ Cruz (CSF) and ’19 Jake Skipworth (Cal) each had two RBI while '19 Jake Shaver (Arizona) homered. Marshall starter, ’20 Cooper Vest (BYU) went the distance, striking out five without a walk. Vest’s fastball ranged 84-86. He had solid feel for his curveball that he showed an ability to "back foot" as well as backdoor right-handed hitters. In spite of not mounting much of an offensive attack, Placentia Mustangs shortstop, '20 Alex Howard caught the eye of PBR Nevada.

’20 Alex Howard, SS, (Gardena)

Small Frame, Howard was a sure handed infielder with soft hands. He made a number of plays including balls to his right and left as well as slow rollers. He showed a feel for touch as well as multiple angle throws.  His footwork played up developing arm strength and with weight and strength gains has a chance to stay on the left side of the infield. Likely a defender first, Howard had barrel feel and adjusted with two strikes.

Game 3

Las Vegas Aces (9) vs Crew Athletics (3)

The brothers Sharman propelled the Las Vegas Aces to victory in game one of their double header. '19 Josh Sharman (UNLV) threw four strong innings before giving way to '18 Chaison Micklich. Micklich pitched with a fastball 84-85 with a 3/4 breaking ball 71-72. Older brother '18 Jason Sharman, centerfielder, tripled twice and along with four additional Aces collected multiple hits in the contest, including '19 Campbell Holt, '21 Jacob Walsh, '18 Jimmy Gamboa, and '20 Colton Zobrist. Offensively for Crew Athletics, second baseman, '22 Sterling LIbscomb and rightfielder, '21 Kade Kuske each had a pair of hits.

Game 4

Las Vegas Aces (9) vs Placentia Mustangs (1)

The Aces continued to rebound after a tough loss to the Marshalls yesterday by winning the second game of their double header. Aces starter, ’18 Jimmy Gamboa was impressive on the mound with a fastball 86-90. He rested comfortably 86-87 with a slurvy breaking ball 71-74.  Ten different members of the Aces lineup notched at least a hit, collecting 14 hits in total. One bright spot for the Mustangs was the play of CF/RHP '21 Riley Watson.

’21 Riley Watson, CF/RHP

The lean and lanky Watson floated around the outfield in two games catching everything he could get to with plenty of opportunity. He displayed true and accurate throws with solid outfield actions. Weight and strength gains will prove valuable to enhance an approach with emphasis on staying inside the baseball. After a long hot day and double header, Watson took the mound, throwing from a high ¾ slot with consistent down plane. Granted he topped out at 81, but it was easy to see more in the “tank”. Look for this rising junior to make some jumps in the near future.
