Day Two Highlights

With Day 2 of games and practices in the books, there was all kinds of action with talent going off from beautiful, and all turf Boombah Sports Complex.

PITCHER OF THE DAY

Drew Howard RHP / SS / All Saints , ON / 2020

Report: Howard, an uncommitted 2020 was lights out in his 3 innings of work today. Fastball was 86-88, worked 85-87 out the stretch with sharp curveball in the 70-74 range with depth and 11/5 shape. The arm is clean in the back and he gets everything out of his 5-foot-11 frame. High compete level with bulldog tendencies on the mound, makings of a talented arm on the mound with feel for three pitches for strikes and secondary stuff that will get swings and misses.

Position PLAYER OF THE DAY

Sam Mitcham C / OF / Sinclair, ON / 2020

Report: Mitcham hd himself a day with two base knocks and the game winning RBI mid game as the Mets got the W over TNXL by score of 3-1. Mitcham made multiple defensive plays, threw out a runner and played a major role in the win, and was pivotal role in controlling the staff, only giving up one run to a talented TNXL lineup. Big day for Mitcham as he made impacts in securing the win in multiple ways, along with 2 RBI’s.

PLAY OF THE DAY

Tyrese Bentola OF / RHP / Centennial, ON / 2021

Report: Tyrese Bentola hit well at the plate, but it was his play in centerfield which has him listed as a top performer. Shifted towards right-field, on a fly-ball the other way, Bentola took chase as the ball continued to slice away from him before diving head-long to make the play. It was a spectacular catch from Bentola, and it comes a day after making another sparkling grab as a right-fielder. The 2021 Tri-City Giants product is an athletic outfielder who has shown progression since we first saw him at the end of last year.

SCOUT DAY TOP PERFORMER

Owen Caissie OF / Notre Dame, ON / 2021

Report: Caissie was flat out excellent during scout day on Tuesday, recording some of the top numbers across the board. Caissie’s fluid swing was consistent with natural lift off the bat, and at the exit velocity station he was up to 102 mph. Caissie’s numbers were 88 mph from the outfield, and he ran a 6.82 60 yard dash as well. Caissie is a legit, top 2021 prospect in Canada and continues to get better every time we see him.

SUrprise of the day

Blake Gillespie SS / OF / Medway, ON / 2021

Report: 2022 Gillespie impacted all ends of the game on Tuesday displaying his athletic ability loud and clear. On the infield dirt, Gillespie was quick and controlled and got off throws up to 80 mph. His arm strength didn't exactly translate to the mound as he doesn't incorporate his lower half well enough, but he was clean out front and located all over the zone. As he better learns how his body should work off the mound, he could turn into a quality arm. He put solid wood on a few baseballs, getting a base-hit out of it, and as he continues to develop he should be a contributor on that end as well.

GAME OF THE DAY

The Fieldhouse Pirates and Mississauga Tigers faced off in a thriller Tuesday night. The Pirates got out front early taking a 4-1 lead, but later the Tigers came right back cutting the lead to a run. The Pirates would soon open up the scoring putting four more runs on the board in the sixth inning. But once again the Tigers weren't finished as they added three runs to make it 8-6 in the 7th inning. With the tying run on second base, Bryce Gordon closed the door sending the Pirates home with a victory and a four-game winning streak.
