Fall Player Spotlights: Daxton Webb

This Fall PBR Arkansas is highlighting a couple of the top uncommitted prospects from the 2023 class to a handful of talented 2025's.  Today we take a look at the quick-armed left hander Daxton Webb.  The Brookland HS product uses his advanced hand speed to drive fastballs into the mid to upper 80's.  Webb also does a tremendous job of engaging the lower half in the delivery and getting strong push off the rubber allowing his fastball to play up at a higher level.  He pairs his fastball with a low 70's curveball with short action and depth and a very heavy arm side fading changeup with good sell and kills the spin on it well.  The three-pitch mix and quick arm should play up as he continues to add strength in the future and should be one to keep an eye on in the in the coming months.

Player Spotlight 

Daxton Webb: LHP/OF, (2024) Brookland, AR. 5-foot-7, 165-pound sturdy frame. Projectable in the box, Webb had a max exit velocity of 89 mph. Started in a balanced quiet stance with a slow controlled load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is quick, has a short uphill swing plane and high finish. He found multiple barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Athletic his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 86 mph; had sure consistent hands, rhythmic quick footwork, and a quick fluid exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. From a high ¾ slot, showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a long arm action. Projectable on the mound, had an over-the-top arm angle and a short arm action with quick arm speed. Tilt-and-topple type pitcher who shows some effort. Uphill shoulders and a strong balance point. Lands square with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 79-82 mph; showed tilt and command around the zone with straight movement. He shows command around the zone and hard action on his tight curveball (64-68). Throws a straight changeup (67-69) that has command around the zone and slight action. 

Scout Evaluation

Position: LHP/OF

Body: 5-foot-7, 165-pound sturdy frame.

Hit: (LHH) Begins in a balanced quiet stance with a slow controlled load, then uses a short stride. Quick bat speed. High finish, short uphill swing. Gap to gap approach. 

Power: 89 mph exit velocity. 

Defense:  (OF) Sure consistent hands, rhythmic quick footwork, quick fluid exchange. Athletic.  Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. 

Arm: 86 mph outfield velocity. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, consistent accuracy. 

Pitching: Projectable. Tilt-and-topple delivery, some effort. Over-the-top arm angle, quick arm speed, short arm action. Strong balance point, uphill shoulders, lands square, an athletic finish.

FB: T82. 79-82 mph. Around the zone accuracy, tilt, straight movement. 

CB: 64-68 mph. Around the zone control, hard action, tight movement. 

CH: 67-69 mph. Around the zone control, slight action, straight movement.

5-Foot-7, 165-Pound frame, physical build with present strength, ran a 7.20, Offensively; simple set, limited rhythm, barrel cocked at foot strike, simple movements, beckside works underneath body, compact stroke, line drive approach, pull side power, 85 mph exit velo, Defensively; 8attacks ball fields outside right side, funnel to midline, short stroke quick release above average carry, 86 mph arm strength.

Pitching:  high ¾ slot, quick arm speed, short arm action, good balance point, easy effort, short front side, open toe land, early clear out front side, slight head lean to release, fastball 78-82 mph, sink with late action, pitched down in zone, curveball 64-66 mph, 1-7 shape, late action, fastball arm speed, fastball line with depth at plate, change up 64-66 mph, fastball arm speed, arm side run, feel for pitch, controlled to arm side.
