Fall Player Spotlights: Owen Coil

Scott Hood
OK/MO/KS/ARK Assistant Scouting Director

Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma is highlighted some of the top remaining uncommitted players in the 2023 class to a couple of the top 2025's.  Today we take a look at the top ranked remaining uncommitted player in the 2024 class in OK Owen Coil.  The Stillwater utility man has shown well in multiple stints on the National stage including this past summer with an impressive week at the Future Games.  Coil has one of the shorter strokes in the area and generates sneaky power from the left side with exit velocities up to 98 mph.  His quick hands and short routes allow him to handle velocity at a high level as well as drive the ball to all fields.  Defensively he shows the ability to play all over the field game changing range both in the middle of the infield as well as the outfield.  Coil runs the 60 in the low 6.7's and is one of the best base runners in the State.  Coil has proven himself to perform time and time again against some of the top talent in the country and should be one for schools to take a closer look at.

The 2024 infielder/outfielder had one of the more impressive weeks at the entire event was easily one of the top 2024 hitters to play at the Future Games.  Coil’s workout day was highlighted by his impressive round of BP and his ability to create hard contact with exit speeds reaching up to 95 mph from his smaller but athletic build.  Coil is known as one of the better gamer type players in the 2024 class and really shined during the games.  He finished the week going 4-9 with three doubles and 3 RBI.  Coil can really run the bases at an advanced level picking up a couple stolen bases, reading balls in the dirt, and scoring from second on a routing ground ball to third.  Coil is the type of player that really understands his own game at a high level and will be a very interesting prospect to continue to follow as he continues to get stronger.
