The Marshall claimed the PBR Nevada Limited Series Mid-Summer Classic title with a 3-0 win over the Las Vegas Aces, going 6-0 in the tournament. Three Marshalls pitchers combined for the shutout against the Aces, ’19 Cy Nielsen (BYU) started and punched out seven before giving way to ’19 Bryce Robison (BYU), and ’19 Casey Anderson (Eastern AZ). The Marshalls scored two in the second courtesy of free passes and a wild pitch and tacked on one in the third on a leadoff triple by ’19 JJ Cruz (CSF) followed by an RBI single from ’19 Jake Skipworth (Cal).  The Aces never really threatened, spoiling a solid outing by ’19 Campbell Holt, LHP.

Consolation Game 1

Las Vegas Patriots (5) vs Athletics (2)

The young crew athletics group continued to show well. The game was notted at two through three innings of play, when the Patriots managed to plate one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to stake them to a 5-2 lead. Patriot ace ’20 Ethan O’Neal, (UNLV) came on to throw the final two frames, striking out four and preserving the victory. Crew Athletics ’20 Sterling Shipman (Portland) was impressive on the mound with a fastball touching 87 and solid spin to his breaking ball. ’21 Mookie Redmond, C, is a projectable receiver with a short arm stroke and developing arm strength for the position. The lanky left-handed hitter has a lean frame and an intriguing athleticism for the position.

Consolation Game 2

SN Baseball (9) vs Placentia Mustangs (5)

The Mustangs struck first with three runs in the first but SN Baseball an answered with a vengeance, scoring five in the second and three in the third. SN was led by leadoff man, Anthony Guzman, 3-4, and ’19 John Gaughan, 3-4 (UNLV), while ’21 Ian Graff homered for the second consecutive day. Placentia reliever, ’21 Riley Watson was commendable holding the Southern Nevada offense in check, allowing the Mustangs to score two in the fourth, cutting the lead to 8-5.  However, SN Baseball relievers locked it down, holding the Mustangs scoreless for the final three innings and tacking on a run in the seventh to win, 9-5. Placentia backstop, ’20 Brandon Dordahl’s defense caught the eye of PBR Nevada.

’20 Brandon Dordahl, C (Martin Luther King)

Sturdy, 5-foot-10 190, Dordahl displayed solid receiving skills as well as quick exchanges and footwork on in game throws to second base. At the plate, he maintained balance throughout his swing with an aggressive approach. His swing plane should provide for future quality contact.
