First PBR Colorado 2020 Rankings Released

John Cackowski

Director of Scouting

In the three years Prep Baseball Report Colorado has had the opportunity to cover amateur baseball like no other organization has ever been able to do before in the state of Colorado. Between scouting numerous games this spring and recently having a great opportunity to see more 2020 grads at the Underclass Invitational in January, we have created our first rankings for the 2020 Class. These rankings will for sure grow and change before the end of next spring. Our next 2020 rankings will be posted after our Top Prospect Games in August.

Lucas Quezada, RHP, Thunder Academy
In at No. 1 is 6-foot, 170 pounds. Bats left, throws right. Closer to 5-foot-10, but everything is super effortless, and he repeats it in an advanced manner given his age. Arm is quick, and he painted his fastball from side to side down in the zone. Fastball was 82-83 and it looked like he was just flipping it in. Stays linear. Threw a straight changeup with fastball arm speed for strikes and a slurve that took solid shape, but is still developing. Change was 74-75 mph. Curveball comes in at 70-72 with 10/4 shape. Solid prospect.

Cole Greer, RHP, Douglas County
Coming in at No. 2 is 6-foot-1, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. Square and inline to the plate then falls to 1B. Wiry frame, loose arm. Hides ball well. Throws from over the top arm slot because tilts spine. Would even be more effective if stayed square and come from high 3/4. Good velo for a 2020. Fastball lived at 79-82. Changeup and curveball lived at 70-71. Both same arm speed as fastball. Threw strikes. At the plate has open stance, short stride. Slight uphill swing, bottom hand finish. Gap to gap. Produced 85 mph exit velo off the tee. In the OF had solid fundamentals. Charged ball aggressively. Threw 77 mph. Ran a 4.6 home to first. Received some innings on the mound for a good Douglas County team that made the playoffs.

Lucas Folsom, RHP/OF, Columbine
Our No. 3 Ranked 2020 is 6-foot-1, 165 pounds. Bats and throws right. Nice projectable frame at his age. Stands tall in beginning of windup. Easy delivery, and loose arm. Tilts shoulders a little to throw over the top, but arm is loose and works well. Pretty effortless. Fastball was 77-80 mph. Curveball and change thrown at same arm speed as fastball. Both pitches lived at 67-69 mph. Curve had tight spin with 12/6 shape. At the plate has a tall, wider stance. Short stride. Swing slightly uphill. Line drive power in live round. Exit velocity was 85 mph off the tee. In the OF showcased arm velocity of 77 mph. Made all of the plays. Ran a 4.6 home to first time.

Owen Best, C, Regis Jesuit
At No. 4 is 5-foot-10, 185 pounds. Bats left throws right. The PBR Colorado staff came away really impressed with Best's offensive potential. Showed off quick, powerful hands from the left side. Frame is still developing, but he is already a strong big swing that doesn’t get cheated. Open stance with a big dive, but hands are quick enough to make up for the dive. 82 mph exit velocity but bat speed played faster in live round. Behind the plate, everything looked the part and he was consistently 2.15 with every throw on the bag. Footwork and transfer were smooth, and he will be under a 2.0 in the next couple of years. He also received very well with a wide base and soft hands. At the end of the year was an offensive force for a 5A Regis Jesuit team that hosted in the 5A District playoffs. Hit .615 in 15 at-bats in a late season call up with 3 doubles and a homerun.
