Five Players Stand Out At John Martin Baseball Camp

The inaugural John Martin Baseball Camp was held at last Saturday at Wendell Simmons Field on the University of Central Oklahoma campus. Forty players from four states were in attendance. Today, PBR Oklahoma will take a look at five standout players from the event.

Jon Gilton, 3B, Broken Arrow HS, 2017
A 6-foot-1, 165-pound long, slender frame, room to add strength. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, quick hands. Balanced stance, slight leg lift, short to the ball, flat to contact, shows flashes of staying through the baseball.  Ran a 7.37 60. Defensively, athletic actions, good feet, average hands. Throws from a high-3/4 slot, loose arm action, 71 mph position velocity. 

Jake Pearson, OF/3B, Harrah HS, 2017
A 6-foot-1, 190-pound corner outfielder, strong build, defined lower half. Offensively, right-handed hitter, gap to gap approach, bat speed, good hand eye. Open, athletic stance, moderate leg kick, slightly uphill bat path, produces back spin. HR to the pull gap in game. 4.51 home-to-first, 7.47 60. Defensively, efficient routes to the ball, over the top slot, good carry, 84 position velocity, accurate. At third base, average hands, accurate arm, 79 position velocity. 

Isaac Muncy, OF, Union HS, 2018
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound outfielder, average build. Ran a 7.03 60, second fastest at the event.  Offensively, right-handed hitter, opposite field approach, flat contact in BP. Slightly open, balanced stance, short stride, late heal plant, short to the ball, good hand eye. Defensively, shows the ability to track the ball, 72 mph position velocity.

Caleb Scott, RPH, Deer Creek HS, 2017
A 6-foot-1, 225-pound frame, barrel-chested, strong, thick legs.  A simple delivery, high-3/4 slot, fast arm out front, and recoil finish. Scott features a fastball with occasional run at 84-86 mph, touched an 87, top at the event. Curveball has late 11/5 shape with depth when down in the zone at 71-72. Split sits 74-78, some depth, flashes glove-side action.

Kyle Simms, 1B, Union HS, 2017
6-foot-2, 165 pound long, wiry build, some strength. Ran a 7.54 60. Offensively, left-handed hitter, middle of the field approach, long levers. Balanced, athletic, open stance, good rhythm, smooth load, on plane to contact, high finish. Defensively, fluid methodical actions, good hands, average feet.  Loose arm, 70 mph position velocity.
