Friday Top Performers

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

The 2019 PBR Future Games are underway at LakePoint in Georgia with more than 500 uncommitted players from around the country playing in front of more than 200 college recruiters. You can find top performers from each team below. For Thursday, click here.

Team Alabama
2021 LHP Cole Cheatham (Ardmore HS, AL) showed a whippy arm action with a fastball that seemed to take off out of the hand at 86-89 mph. He pitches out of a 3/4 arm slot and has plenty of room to fill out and add strength. The breaking ball has nice shape at 75-76 with two-plane break.

Team Arizona
2022 OF Ethan Hott (Chaparral HS, AZ) has been a monster so far. The 5-foot-8, 155-pounder has yet to make an out, adding two hard singles in Friday’s game. He showed some of his other tools off by stealing a base and making a strong throw to third from center field to prevent a runner from tagging up. He may not be big, but the tools are and the performance has matched them.

Team Arkansas/Kansas
2021 RHP Luke Rolland (Pangburn HS, AR) has a long, lean build with room to add strength to his 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame. He pitches from a low-3/4 slot and has action to his 83-85 fastball. He controls his 73-75 slider, filling the zone with strikes and heavy sink. He went two innings Friday, allowing an unearned run, and had three strikeouts in two innings.

Team California
2021 3B Patrick Keighran (Serra HS, CA) stood out again Friday. He had a ground rule double on Thursday and went off in his second game. He laced a ball into the right-center field gap for an easy double, but was thrown out at third trying to stretch it. In his second at-bat, he pounded a ball to left field that was caught at the fence. In his final plate appearance, he laced another shot in the right-center gap and that time was not denied his triple.

Team Canada
2021 RHP Anson McGorman (Ballenas HS, BC), a 6-foot-1, 165-pounder, was outstanding Friday. Working from a 3/4 slot with clean action in the back, he lands across his body with good hip rotation that allows him to work out front. The arm is quick and produces a fastball at 86-88. He mixed in both a curveball and changeup for strikes. It has tight 11/5 shape and kept hitters off balance.

Team Carolinas
2022 3B/C Tucker Toman (Hammond HS, SC) continued to show off his advanced offensive approach on Friday. The athletic corner infielder generates some serious juice from both sides of the plate. Toman was able to show off his right-handed swing on Friday. After lining a blistering single through the shortstop in his first at-bat from the left side, he turned it around to the right side and scalded a ball to the second baseman for a hard 4-3 putout. His approach is beyond his years and his high leg kick and loose hands always seem to be on time. Toman is a solid defender who carries balls across the infield from the hot corner with an easy arm action.

Team Connecticut
2021 LHP Braden Quinn (New Fairfield HS, CT) has a long, wiry strong and athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds. He had an outstanding outing Friday, touching 88 multiple times and living down in the zone. He works from a higher slot and mixes in two secondary pitches for strikes—a breaking ball at 73-75 and changeup at 74-76.

Team Florida
2021 1B/RHP Connor Wilt has a violent, physical swing. He barreled a ball into the opposite field gap for a double. There is present quickness in the hands and the extension and bat path are there. He has the potential to be a power left-handed bat. He also sat 83-84 with his fastball on the mound with command and the slider was 72-73.

Team Georgia
2021 RHP/3B Caleb Logerwell (Home School, GA) made a statement Friday night, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out five. He sat 86-88, but caught attention for his breaking ball. It was 75-79 with high spin, flashing around 3000 RPMs—which would rank in the top 5 percent of all MLB curveballs in 2018. He has a quick arm and athletic, projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds.

Team Illinois
2021 LHP Reed Gannon (Minooka HS, IL) put together arguably the most impressive pitching performance so far for Team Illinois. Gannon, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound, long-limbed and loose-armed, southpaw struck out four in two innings of work. Gannon, who faced the minimum, pounded the bottom and corners of the strike zone behind a fastball that sat 85-87 mph with late arm-side life. He also showed above-average feel for two different breaking balls.

Team Indiana
2021 OF J.D. Rogers (Carmel HS, IN) has stood out as a quick-twitch athlete this week. On Friday, he was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run scored.

Team Iowa/Minnesota/Nebraska
2021 SS/OF Sam Petersen (Ballard, IA) had himself a day to build off of his workout, which featured an impressive round of BP. He has an athletic frame and ran a 6.67 60-yard dash on Wednesday. On Friday, he smashed a solo shot to left to go along with an outfield assist.

Team Kentucky
2021 OF Trent Adkins (Simon Kenton HS, KY) showed the power he possesses when he launched a no-doubt, solo shot to left field. At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Adkins projects as a corner outfielder who will only continue to add power as he fills out his frame.

Team Louisiana
2021 SS Brennan Holt (Parkview Baptist HS, LA) continued his strong week at the Future Games on Friday by scorching an RBI triple to right field, giving a blazing 4.26-second home-to-first time on the turn. He finished the game 1-for-2.

Team Massachusetts
2022 SS/RHP Matt Travisano (Noble & Greenough HS, MA) sat 86-88 with sink and got swings and misses on a 73-75 breaking ball. The changeup remains in development. His delivery has solid tempo and the arm is clean and fast.

Team Michigan
2021 SS J.T. Sokolove has been a spark plug for the Team Michigan offense. He led off Friday with a walk that led to the first run of the game and then followed that with a single up the middle during a three-run inning. In his third at-bat, he scored again after another walk. He also flashed the leather in the field on an unassisted double play.

Team Mid-Atlantic
2021 1B Ethan Ott (Greenbrier Christian School, VA) led the game off with a home run to center that was 98 off the bat with an estimated distance of 401 feet. He also had an RBI single in his second at-bat on a two-strike count after making an adjustment in the middle of the at-bat. He is very strong at contact with a ton of easy power to all fields.

Team Nevada
2021 SS/RHP Elie Kligman (Cimarron Memorial HS, NV) tossed three scoreless innings Friday. He featured a four-pitch mix, starting with an 83-84 fastball that was consistently down in the zone. He throws two breaking balls—a curveball at 66-68 and slider at 75-76. He also features a changeup at 73-74 with good feel and sink. He is competitive on the bump, working out of jams created by defensive miscues. He also had a single on the day.

Team New Jersey
2021 RHP David Hagaman (Cedar Creek HS, NJ) has a projectable frame at 6-foot-4 190-pounds with long, wiry limbs. His fastball sat 85-87, touching 88, from a loose, effortless high-3/4 slot. He also spun a tight, late-breaking curveball at 75-77, a pitch that he used to get several swings and misses and used as an out pitch. He went two innings and struck out four.

Team New York
2021 RHP/1B Ryan Birchard (Auburn HS, NY) has a physical, proportional build at 6 feet, 185 pounds. He worked two innings against Connecticut and sat 86-88 with some heaviness and tilt. He showed feel for spin with smaller break and downer action on his curveball at 71-73. He retired six of the seven batters he faced and had two strikeouts.

Team Ohio
2021 OF Logan Maxwell (Lima Shawnee HS, OH) has yet to get out this weekend, adding two more hits to his total, but 2021 LHP Bobby Perebzak (Walsh Jesuit HS, OH) filled the zone with a fastball up to 87 and he showed two advanced secondary pitches. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder didn’t give up a hit in two innings of work, striking out five of the six hitters he faced.

Team Oklahoma
2022 SS Jackson Holliday (Stillwater HS, OK) continues to stay red hot, going 2-for-2 with a double to lead off Friday’s game, coming around to score and followed with an RBI single later. The 6-foot, 165-pound shortstop has also played clean defense all weekend long.

Team Pennsylvania
2022 LHP Chase Kriebel (Clarion Area HS, PA) allowed one earned run over three innings of work against Team Michigan with three strikeouts. The 6-foot, 160-pounder mixed three pitches effectively from a combination of arm slots with a loose, whippy delivery.

Team Select
2021 RHP Blake McGehee (Tioga HS, LA) went six up, six down for Team Select. He stands at 6 feet, 170 pounds with an average, proportional build. McGehee pounded the zone and showed polish with his three-pitch mix. The fastball sat 86-89 and topped out at 90 with minimal effort. The curveball comes out of his hand easily and shows depth at 72-73. He also mixed in a changeup at 74 that flashed some fade. He maintains a deliberate tempo with his simple, mechanically sound delivery.

Team Tennessee
2021 RHP Colton Regen (Mt. Juliet HS, TN) tossed two scoreless innings in a start against Missouri. The 6-foot-3, 160-pounder has long-limbed frame with great projection. The fastball jumped out of his hand at 85-88 with good life and carry through zone. He froze hitters with a sharp 11/5 breaking ball at 70-72, and showed the ability to bury it for swings and misses. He showed great command of both offerings, keeping the ball down in the zone. He faced seven batters, walking one, and striking out four.

Team Texas
2021 SS/RHP Luke Heefner (Home School, TX) oozes athleticism on the field and at the plate, where he made hard contact in his first at-bat, but he really stood out in his one inning on the mound. With a compact delivery, he showed a quick and clean arm, delivering fastballs at 85-88 with late jump on hitters. He also showed a tight breaking ball with 10/4 shape and heavy depth. He struck out two of the four batters he faced.

Team Wisconsin
2021 IF Ryan Taylor (Verona Area HS, WI) stood out during the workout with strong numbers across the board. He has shown to be a heady defender with soft glove work and he made several standout plays Friday at both shortstop and third base. His arm clearly plays from the left side and he showed an above-average run tool, nearly beating out a groundball to second base with a 4.29 home-to-first time. He also ripped a lineout to center in his other at-bat, continuing to show his advanced hitting ability.
