The Galax Maroon Tide has the Auburn Eagles number. Today the Tide vanquished the Eagles for the
second time this season, by a score of 7-4. In a battle of righthanders, Lucas Dalton (Galax) and Brady
Harris (Auburn) dueled under gray skies, hoping to capture the Region 1C Baseball Championship.
In the top of the first, Harris went right to work, striking out the side on eleven pitches. Dalton,
countered with three ground balls, throwing only six pitchers. The Tide got on the scoreboard in the
second when John Stuart singled and scored on infield error to grab an early lead.
Galax second baseman, Matt Lundy opened the third inning with a base hit and Cade Ashworth singled
to right field with no outs. Stuart's double to center field cleared the bases and the visitors were
up 3-1
In the bottom of the third inning, the home team would wake up the bats. Auburn's Hunter Keith
singled, Dylan Akers was hit by a pitch, and Taylor Newcome walked to load the bases. Keith Reed's
single scored Stuart and Akers, knotting the score at three runs apiece.
Galax took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, when Harris worked a seven pitch walk with two outs.
Harris moved to second base on a wild pitch, and Reed drove in his pitcher home with a single up the
middle.
In the sixth, Lundy's two out single got the tide rolling. Ashworth's triple to leftfield scored him
teammate. Dan Huff reached on an infield error, and Jacob Stuart scored Ashworth. John Key, who had three hits in the game, singled in Huff.
Dalton was great on the mound, pitching a complete game with a fastball and a confounding
knuckle ball. He finished out the game.
