Game Notes:

Las Vegas, NV - The Cimarron-Memorial Spartans traveled to Centennial High School to face off against the Bulldogs on Monday afternoon. The Spartans came out aggressively putting up two runs in the top of the first against Centennial. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, starting pitcher '19 Nate Martin would settle in. Spartan starter, ’19 Lance Quaney quieted the Bulldogs early.

In the top of the third, runners at the corners for Cimarron, catcher ’20 Anthony Martinez (Centennial) gunned down the runner attempting to steal second. The Bulldogs minimized the damage and trailed 2-0. One inning later, in an identical situation, Martinez would erase yet another runner at second. In the bottom half of the inning, Bulldog outfielder, ’20 Travis Rice, OF would drive in the first run for the Bulldogs with an RBI single, followed by Martinez driving in Rice with a game tying single. Martin surrender a leadoff single to '21 Eli Kligman following an eight pitch at bat but leave him stranded. Ricardo Garcia relieved Quaney, finding himself with runners on first and third and only one out. The Bulldogs capitalized on throwing error to third, scoring both runs, taking 4-2 lead. After giving up two early runs, Nate Martin pitched scoreless the rest of the way, earning the complete game victory.

Scouting Notes:

’19 Nate Martin, RHP (Centennial)

Athletic, 6 foot 160, Martin showed a feel for three pitches, relying heavily on his ability to locate his pitches. His fastball was 78-81, curveball 67-69, and changeup 69-71. With weight and strength gains, Martin is likely to see velocity improvements. He showed the confidence to throw any pitch in any count, keeping the opposing hitters off balance.  He throws from a ¾ arm slot, displaying a feel to pitch and maintaining a quick break time to the plate with runners on base.  Martin was a good athlete off the mound. He appeared to get stronger as he got deeper in the game and more familiar with the opposing hitters.

’20 Anthony Martinez, C (Centennial)

Lean, 5’9 150, Martinez is an athletic backstop that showed instincts for the position. He made true and accurate throws to second, handling an array of pitches with a pop time of 2.1.  At the plate, Martinez took a good path to the ball, staying on plane. His simple approach and path offer minimal swing and miss. He displayed leadership characteristics and a keen understanding for the game.
