Grand Rapids Christian Wins Rockford Varsity Boosters Tournament

Grand Rapids Christian continues to prove why perhaps they are the team to beat in Division 2 this year.  GRCHS knocked off perennial Division 1 power Ann Arbor Pioneer and Grand Rapids West Catholic.

With the two wins on Saturday April 14, 2012, the Eagles remain undefeated improving to 6-0.  The Eagles handily beat Pioneer 8-0 in the first game of the tournament led by a strong pitching performance by Tyler Davison who threw 5 shutout innings.

In the second game the Eagles cruised to an 11-1 victory. Kurt Hoekstra, a Western Michigan commit, provided outstanding defense against West Catholic gliding around the field and included an acrobatic catch in shallow left center field.  In the same game, the scoring was punctuated by an Alex VandeVusse's triple to the right center gap. He showed strong speed by scoring on the play taking advantage of a West Catholic defensive miscue. The game ended with the final score of 11-1 in favor of the Eagles.

Standing at 6-0 heading into league play, they certainly are the team to beat.  With the likes of talent such as Hoekstra, VandeVusse, Schipper, and VanVliet the Eagles seem to be poised to make another state title run in 2012.
