Greenwood Downs Farmington 7-3

Greenwood defeated Farmington 7-3 in a conference game hosted by Farmington High School.

The game started as a pitchers dual, with two of the elite arms in the state going at it. 2017 RHP Tyler Gregg pitched for Farmington and he was opposed by 2018 RHP Connor Noland.

After the first it looked as if Gregg may have the advantage as Gregg hit a homerun in the first to give Farmington its lone lead of the contest. Noland settled in over the next 5 innings shutting Farmington down, giving his offense enough time to produce a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th. In the 7th Farmington scratched across 2 runs to reach the final.

Noland’s final line of the contest was 7 innings pitched, 3 runs allowed, on 6 hits while striking out 8. He impressed with command of 2 pitches on a consistent basis, he located his fastball 86-89 mph on both sides of the plate and complimented it with a sharp 12/6 curveball thrown 74-77 mph.

Gregg finished the day with 5 innings pitched, allowing 7 runs. He showed the ability to strike hitters out with a swing an miss curveball throw 75-78 mph with 11/6 shape and late break with solid depth. His fastball worked 85-88 mph up to 89 mph.

Offensively Greenwood was paced by 2017 INF Cooper Van Kooten and 2018 OF Ronnie Berg. Van Kooten finished the day 3 for 3 with a double an RBI and an a run scored. Berg was 2 for 4 with a triple 2 RBIs and a run scored.

Gregg lead Farmington with 2 hits on the day including a home run and an RBI.
