Welcome to the Arizona HS Roundup. 

Baseball season is finally here. As of Friday, March 12th, the AIA high school baseball season is officially off and running. Throughout the spring, PBR will be posting Daily Roundup with some scores and select performances from past games.

Chaparral opens their season in walkoff fashion

No. 7 Chaparral took on a strong Perry squad to open the season at home. Trailing in the bottom of the 7th inning 4-2, the Firebirds rallied to score 3 runs to take the victory. 2022 RHP Hayden Lewis (Arizona commit) got the game winning hit on a 2-run LD single up the middle. Lewis also closed out the game with two scoreless frames, earning the Win on the mound. 2021 LHP Justin Still (New Mexico recruit) started on the hill for Perry and threw 5 shutout innings after the 2-run first. He struck out 8 batters while surrendering two hits & two walks with 1 earned run. 2022 RHP Andrew Carroll (Arizona commit) started on the mound for Chaparral. After he broke off some rust in the first, he started to get strong as the game went on. 

 

Paradise Honors holds on against Deer Valley

Paradise Honors holds off a late rally to earn its first victory of the season. Deer Valley did there best to make it a game in the end, scoring 3 runs in the 7th inning. 2021 LHP Joey Collier (Airforce recruit) started on the mound for the Panthers, throwing 3.2 innings while not giving up a single run. He fanned 7 batters on the day while surrendering 3 walks and a hit. Collier also led the offense with the only multi-hit game between the two teams. He had two hits in the contest, going 2 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. 

Empire comes out swinging 

The Empire Ravens open up their season with 11-4 win over Pueblo Magnet. The bats were definitely alive to start their season with the Ravens notching 13 hits in the contest. Senior, SS Cameron Warren got things started from the leadoff spot, having led off the game with a single and hit a triple in his next at bat, scoring a run with two RBI's in the game. Junior, 3B Luis Camacho had two doubles with a run and two RBIs, hitting out of the 2-hole. Junior, OF Nicholas Didier logged 3 hits in the game  while scoring a run himself. Senior, Nate Richey started on the mound for the Ravens, throwing 4 scoreless innings while striking out 6 batters, surrendering only 1 hit.
