Welcome to the Arizona Daily Roundup. 

Baseball season is finally here. As of Friday, March 12th, the AIA high school baseball season is officially off and running. Throughout the spring, PBR will be posting Daily Roundup with some scores and select performances from past games.

Basha edges Desert ridge via walkoff

No. 12 Basha sneaked by Desert Ridge on Thursday by a score of 2-1. 1B Carter Boone hit the game winning single in extra innings as the game was tied at 1. Boone was also the winning pitcher in the game as he came into pitch the 8th inning.  The pitching was strong both on sides from each of the teams starters in Ethan Gibbs (Basha) & Cade Bleeker (Desert Ridge). They both allowed 1 run each, throwing at least 7 innings. 

Notre Dame Prep holds leads to beat Arcadia

Notre Dame Prep scored 5 runs in the first two innings and held on the rest of the game to beat Arcadia 5-4. 2021 CF Brian Leon (South Mountain recruit) led the offense for NDP from the leadoff spot. He had two big hits in the game with a triple & HR, batted 3 runs in & scored two himself. Senior right-hander, Cody Albright (South Mountain recruit) got the start on the mound for the Saints, logging the win in 3.2 innings pitched. He struck out 6 batters while allowing 3 earned runs. 

Mountain View Mesa sneaks away with win in pitchers duel

Mountain View Mesa put a late run across the board to earn the victory vs Boulder Creek by a score of 2-1. 2022 LHP Tyler Donat (Boulder Creek) pitched lights out in the loss. He pitched to contact, throwing 6 innings in the contest. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits while striking & walking one batter a piece. Senior, Aiden Bevier pitched all but one out of the game for Mountain View. He allowed 1 earned run in 6.2 innings, striking out 5 batters while giving up 3 walks & 5 hits. The Toros scored the game securing run in the 6th inning on a sac fly by Ezra McNaughton

Buckeye Union gets big win vs Seton Catholic

Buckeye Union rode the arm of ace, 2022 LHP Brandon Compton (San Diego commit). The Hawks won the game by a score of 6 to 5. Compton struck out 15 of 24 batters faced in 5.2 innings pitched. He allowed 2 ER on 5 walks while not allowing a single hit. The bullpen held Seton Catholic's 7th inning push to secure the win.
