The Halifax Comets jumped out to a 10-1 lead in four innings en route to a 11-3 victory over George Washington HS on Friday evening.

George Washington jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off of three hits. However, Halifax was quick to answer with four runs in the top of the second, led by Dawson Watts with a 2-RBI double. The inning was capped off by a scored run from a dropped fly ball followed by a single by Dillon Davis to scratch the final run of the frame, making the score 3-1.

In the top of the third, Halifax struck again with a single run after Drew Harlow (Radford) hit a two out double and later scored off a Brayden Moore infield single.

George Washington threatened in the bottom of the third. However, a nice 3-6-3 double play ended the frame.

The Comets would strike again in the fourth, with Davis again plating a run with a single which was followed by Harlow nailing a two out, RBI single. A Watts RBI single would make the score 10-1.

George Washington was not going to go out quietly. Darrian Davis led off the inning with a single which was followed up with a line drive by first basemen, Daniel Riddle. A base on balls would load the bases with no out, making a tough situation for starting pitcher Carlton Ress (Ferrum). Ress faced adversity head on by forcing a fly ball to the catcher, a 5-2 put out, and an inning ending strikeout to end the threat.

George Washington shut Halifax down in the top of the 5th and rallied with two runs off of two line drive singles from Daniel Riddle and Zachary Piedra to cut the lead to 10-3.

Halifax answered back in the top of the sixth with a RBI shot by Corey Brandon to make the score 11-3.

After an empty frame to take the game to the seventh inning, Halifax put 2019 right handed pitcher, Colt Larue on the mound to close out the game giving up only one hit and one base on balls.
